Hey guys,Had a customer come over to have a new fireplace screen frame assembly fabbed to replace his deteriorated one. He brought a drawing with dimensions he needed & parameters for a precise fit & mounting requirements. I asked him if his dimensions were exact & he said: "I believe so". Well, "I believe so" just doesn't cut it when you have it all done & the customer picks it & then the next day returns it because it "just doesn't quite fit exact". Those kinds of jobs will cause you to lose your a$$ when you have to start cutting & re-doing to make it perfect as was originally requested. He looked at the material I stock & decided to use 1.5" sq. tube for the wall framing, 1.5W X .75"D rect. tube for the doors. He also requested a 5" W "hood" to fit on the top w/2" angled frontal overlap. I gave him (2) pieces of the 1.5" sq tube & told him to take them home, set them in place against the mounting surface, & get an "EXACT" inside measurement between the tubes. That would be the (2)doors OD dimensions I would need for a nice tight closure fit. He brought them back the next day with another sketch to insure I got the mounting angles in the correct positions & depth for a good fit. After insuring all was exact to his parameters, he gave me a deposit for the materials.I cut all the pieces, laid them on the welding table, clamped in place, & measured every dimension to insure it was exact to his dwg. & the fit was perfect. The pics are in the order of the fabrication; material cut to size, door frame angles cut, all clamped in place for initial tacking to hold dimen., hinges positioned, finish welding. I used fine mesh(1/8"sq) woven hardware cloth for the screening as he wanted as small as I could get. He is going to take the assem. to the powder coat shop down the road to get it all powder coated in flat black. I had (5) hrs total labor with this unit. The hood has (2) 1.25"sq tubes welded on each end that slide down into the 1.5" sq. that has been drilled w/2 holes for self-tapping screws to hold in the position he will need. The hood has vertical movement of 1.5" to suit his position for it.Anyway, here are the pics...(10). Gonna need (2) posts to get them all on, so PLEASE give me a couple xtra minutes to get them all on. Don't hesitate to ask any ??? Thanks.Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Solid design. Those don't look like welds, they look like caulking. |
