Guys i'm trying to figure out why the parent metal is acting like it has dirt in it. Seems to be getting small pits while it's puddling.I pre- heated this block ( 24"x36"x60") to about 120 degrees F*.(I've welded on this same tool in a different area with no heat and had great results.)I tried changing to a gas lense.no luckI tried a different argon bottle. no luckI reground the parent metal so that it was clean and still, i'm getting pits, and when i add 1430 filler rod it looks like there is contaminates in the weld.Any ideas ??TiltLast edited by tilt; 01-27-2010 at 09:09 PM.Reason: adding
Reply:Can you verify on a piece of mild or stainless that your getting proper coverage, despite changing things out. Just run a few beads and look at the colors, should give you a good idea.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:I'll try that and give a report back.Today i tried helium shielding gas with better rusults, then swich back to argon and turned the balance down to ")" for some better cleaning effect...still not happy with it though.Think the welder might have something wrong with it?? Miller 250 DX
Reply:How much heat are you throwing at it? If your too cold (low on amps), taking too long to form a pool, it can cause pitting. That might explain why the helium had slightly better results. Balance?? I thought you were welding steel."SOUTHPAW" A wise person learns from another persons mistakes;A smart person learns from their own mistakes; But, a stupid person.............never learns. |
