Should I buy this oxygen cylinder?

I found this large oxygen cylinder (i think 282 cf) for sale near me for a really great price.  But my concerns are will I be able to exchange it at one of my LWS?  It has a manufacture's name on the neck ring of "Grand Oxygen Paris, TX."  Should I buy it or stay away?
Reply:Depends. I have an account with my LWS and the guy there almost never looks at the tags. Size and color would match very close to the ones I get from them regularly and  I doubt I'd have any trouble swapping that cylinder out.. On the other hand, I've dealt with some other locations that have given me the third degree even over their own cylinders since I'm not a regular at that location and the guy there is an Azz,The color/ size of the ones the tech school supplier delivers are quite different however. There that cylinder would stand out like a sore thumb and I wouldn't bet on being able to exchange it.Many suppliers won't deal with cylinders from other places. The number of independent locations near me that will deal with customer owned cylinders is now almost zero, so you have to have a cylinder from a big chain or you are SOL. Most big chains won't sell cylinders over 150 cf, so almost all the size you are looking at are rental/lease cylinders and actually belong to the LWS, not the guy who is "selling" it..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:That cylinder is a rental, and not for sale. I would only offer for what oxygen is worth. If you buy it, then try to take it to your LWS for an exchange when it is empty. They may trace it for you and tell you if they would take it. It may be old enough that it needs a hydro test also. Reply:Have the seller meet you at the LWS to have it inspected. If the supplier says it's "good to go" then have it filled at that time. Then you will know you can bring it back for an exchange or re-fill.Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
Reply:That cylinder is a rental, and not for sale......is what COULD be said.Cylinder ownership questions are STORE dependent.One location of a chain may turn you away completely and another may exchange or fill without question(if it meets hydro,valve and other general criteria).I OWN Ts,Ks,Ss and Qs and cannot fathom being told that I don't soley on size.My former LWS did use serial number tracking and it was a disaster.
