or ordered from this company;http://www.cpomilwaukee.com/milwauke...efault,sc.htmlWhat's your thoughts?
Reply:I don't know anything about that company but I am a big fan of "reconditioned" power tools.  Tools get returned to the manufacturer or repair center with minor or major faults.  Some of them are just returned because some jerk bought it to do his little project and returned it for refund even though there was nothing really wrong with it.  Either case the tool goes back and a tech has to examine, test, repair if necesarry and then the tool gets repackaged to go out for sale at a discount.  My point is I have had some "new" tools that were defective but I have never had a "recon" tool that was defective out of the box.  Usually the tools look like new, with few signs of use if any.  The best part is your actual tool has been inspected and tested by a tech, unlike newly manufactured tools which are only usually tested on a statistical basis, perhaps one per hundred or even more, which minimizes the cost to the manufacturer.   In addition sometimes there are the old bits, blades, batteries etc that originally came with the tool and are still good, as well as new replacement accessories supplied as well. Of course if the tool is a p.o.s. in the first place, a recon tool is not going to be a good bet, but a quality tool from a major brand tool manufacturer, in my opinion is a good option and a chance to save a few bucks."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
Reply:I agree with norite, the reconditioned tools are those you know will work.  The new tools you buy in the factory sealed box, are those who are supposed to work.Supposed To and Does are two different thingsI offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:I bought hundreds over the years, and never had a major fault with any.    Most usually die to neglect and gross misuse before any other means.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I've bought several and never had an issue. As said above, many times the tools are either used for one small job and returned to the store, or in some cases the packaging could have been destroyed and the tool got sent back for that reason.I think I bought my metal connector nailer and my paper tape framing gun from CPO..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks guys...do you think a 20% savings over new is worth justifying?

Reply:Yep, especially if you still have some sort of warranty on the recon parts.-AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup
Reply:I bought a recon. DeWalt 6" angle grinder w/90 day warranty, and it has been flawless for 10 years.  A few years ago, I bought a DeWalt framing nailer recon., and it failed a few months after the warranty ran out.  I calculated the cost of an O-ring kit (which had a wrong O-ring) and I would have been better off paying full price.
Reply:you guys are getting in more and more tbouble with my bride.first it was another welder, then a new drill doctor, and now an 11 amp angle grinder (but dear,i only had four ) .glad it wasn't my fault.you guys better straighten up.miller thunderbolt 250vlincoln square wave tig 175 prolincoln idealarc mig sp250everlast tig 210EXTeverlast power plasma 50chicago electric (hf) 130 tig/90 arcchicago electric 90 amp flux wire3 sets oxy/acet

Reply:I've bought lots of recon tools. It's pretty much all i buy now. It saves so much money, and like said above, i've never pulled one out of the box and had a problem with one.
Reply:I bought a cordless power tool kit. Came with one dead battery One was weak they replaced the dead one but I think the seawall is junk cause batteries die vary quickly. I will buy new next time. When I bought mine the ad was misleading it sad factory reconditioned but the paper they send says factory trained.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:I haven't had much luck with reconditioned things including tools. My last factory reconditioned purchase was 3 ionic breeze air purifiers with the UV light inside. All 3 lasted a couple to a few months and then died. One of them the lights on top to tell you the settings never lit up even fresh out of the box. One never even came with the UV light bulb inside of it. The third one was the only one that actually had all its parts and worked like it should.Same deal I have gotten with pretty much everything I ever bought that was reconditioned. I only buy used or new now, no more rebuilt/reconditioned for this guy.
Reply:The company the OP linked to may be a division of Milwaukee, but is at least an authorized agency. The warranty on its tools is the same as for new ones, batteries included, is from Milwaukee itself, and is fairly good. I looked up a couple of cordless tool models and found that sites price to be almost exactly the same as new tools at some reputable dealers, shipping costs being considered too....but since both are like new and have the same warranty, that makes sense to me. I have a bunch of Milwaukee equipment, use it well (but don't abuse it) and have never needed warranty service. I have acquired a few broken (and obviously misused)  Milwaukee tools and have repaired them with factory parts, still ending up well under the cost of a new such tool even though new parts may not be exactly cheap.
Reply:Before I was born my dad bought a recon black and decker  1/2" drill / hammer drill.  35+ years later I still use it as my only 'corded' drill, though it is showing its age..  I keep meaning to take it apart, clean it out really good, and inspect bearings, gears etc.miller syncrowave 250hobart handler 140home made 400 amp engine driven in progress...
Reply:I have, but much more often I've bought used tools that were broken for cheap, and fixed them. Sometimes I come out ahead, sometimes it's iffy, and sometimes I bomb. I bought a drill press (sans motor) and a gas-powered 14" concrete saw (sight unseen, not working) each for a bit more than I might have liked recently, and repair costs were a bit higher than I would have wished (a new motor, and a few little odds & ends for the drill press, a new cylinder/piston for the concrete saw). Total: $300 for a $5-600 drill press, and also about $300 for $1000 concrete saw. I've also bought MANY tools used that worked fine, including from craigslist, ebay, and pawn shops (that part started when my truck was stolen and I started visiting pawn shops looking for my tools. I realized the magnitude of the pawn shop business and that there was essentially no chance of finding my stuff again, at least now around here -- major metro area, many pawn shops). Most of my larger tools were probably bought used (just like all of my vehicles).
Reply:At work 6'' grinders and 5'' grinder are supplied, but i really like the small size and weight of the smaller Makita 4'' 1/2, so i bought a reconditioned one on Ebay and the grinder never stopped working since 1 years and a half! so my opinion is go for it, A good brand like Walter, Makita, Metabo, Hilti will work great even reconditioned!Calculator > Bevel Square
Reply:name brands are fine, I wouldn't bother with the cheaper brands as the savings is minimal. tyler tools is who I've used. My favorite is hitachi lithium drills with life time warranty. I buy them and after 2 years of use they are shot and I get a new drill. I started out with Dewalts, but the cost to get them fixed is so high for another $10 you can get a new drill and batteries. I've heard of people taking broken craftsman tools and getting new ones in exchange as well.

Reply:I have had the milwaukee m18 for about 4 years now and I have had one battery go bad. That was at year 2 and they replaced it for free. I bought a used combo kit off of ebay and bought a new drill and impact from homedepot. I wouldn't hesistate to buy reconditioned tools if it was a good enough deal.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
