I've had the opportunity (which I let pass) to purchase a used LE MP350 for $2,500.00....the question is, would this be a better purchase than a LE 255XT or MM252? I've never welded before, but I'm the type who will buy something that I won't necessarily have to upgrade later on. My intent for a welder; well, I'm a pretty imaginative guy so it would go anywhere from automotive, fabrication, sculptures, etc. Pretty much everything. The MP350 was used, but my father is a maintenance foreman for a large powerplant and says he can get a welder for much cheaper than say what new ones are listed at on EBay.Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Reply:Better purchase? Sort of.The 350 is in the next Class up in machines so yes it is a better purchase if you need all of it.Better purchase for you? hard to really say.The LE 255xt or MM252 would probably work out just sweet for what you want to do.and remember all da udder tools that yer gonna need to work with Metal=$$$Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:True. Thanks for the response. Hard to believe that after a whole day, only 1 response and like 100 reads or something ) I didn't really look.I was just worried that by having a multi-process welder, you would lose the quality control in the essential need/function, MIG. You know how that can happen with different things. Buy one thing for one purpose but end up getting a few other things just thrown in there. As for the power and capability, well, as an analogy I would say it would be the same reason as having a diesel truck and nothing to pull/tow. It will cost a little more, but when you want the power or need the power, it's there; and if you ever get something to pull (i.e. if I ever move on to doing more things), I won't need to buy another truck |
