CO2 vs Mixed gas for MIG use

What is the benifit of either straignt CO 2 or using mixed gas for MIG use with mild steel.  I have a 220 amp Lincolnd mig machine.  My long term goal would be use for small fabricating projects such as snomachine / atv / motorcycle lifts.  Possibly moving onto atv trailers and eventually aluminum with a spool gun, I now that is Argon.  But for the mild steel I am now using flux core wire.  I beleive there is a cost difference between straight of mixed gas but what is the other differences?
Reply:many great forum posts already on this.  long story short straight 100% co2 has fallen out of favour in industrial practice and while not banned is hardly if ever used for solid wire GMAW. it is slightly cheaper and gives slightly better penetration. So for the hobbyist it is often used to make little 110 and 220 machines go a little further.however it produces much more spatter, a worse bead appearance and cannot achieve spray transfer.  For those reasons it's uneconomical in commercial settings. personally i run 85/15.  http://www.weldreality.com/MIG_welding_gases.htm start reading

Reply:If you want to do solid wire short circuit and spray on mild steel and not change gas mix use a 95-85% Ar with CO2. Most weld distributors will charge you as if the entire contents is Ar(more expensive then CO2), how ever there are those who charge more for any mix , they do not regularly mixed.
Reply:I run CO2 for all my wire hard, and flux core (Excel Arc 71 or 777) and it fits the bill for me. $12 for a 20 pounder and they take up a heck of alot less space than a 330 cf mix cylinder.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
