Hello All, I have a friend that has a Lincoln 130 wire welder and was just given a Powermate 5000 watt generator by a deceased family member. It uses no idle wide open rpm is about all I can tell you about it?..His question is will it run his welder? Without damage to either machine? Thanks Dale. I have seen a similar question posted on here before but can not locate it in the forum. Have a great day Thanx
Reply:Chck the input amps on the welder (on the data plate) and the output amps on the genny.  That will tell you right away.

Reply:If it's rated for 5000 continuous duty that is 41.6 amps @ 120 volts or about what 2 good plugins will give you. Most generators are rated by surge wattage but you still should be in the 35 amp range if this is the case. So, yes it should run it fine.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"

Reply:Wow I need to go buy a lottery ticket!!!  Funny this topic came up because day before yesterday, I actually hooked up my Lincoln 140C to my Coleman Powermate 6250 genny for the first time.   The model genny I have is the Powermate 6250.  It's surge power is rated at 6,250 watts, while continuous power is 5000 watts.  My powermate has the 10hp Subaru engine. Anyway..... Broccoli1 is correct about the amps.  The 120v outlets are connected with 20A breakers.  Now I don't know about the Lincoln 130 model as the OP described, however  my manual for the 140C states that a "25 amp" breaker is what Lincoln recommends for maximum performance on that little machine.  Well, I put some .030 Flux core wire in, kept the Ar/C02 mix off and swapped out the polarity connections. I needed to do some fast and dirty welds, using 1/4" thick scrap onto some galvanized pipes (fence posts).   I needed to weld those pieces of steel to the base of the pipes (11 total) in order to slide a Hi-Lift jack onto them.  With the Hi-Lift jack, I jacked all the poles Up and out of the empacted clay like soil.  End result.... Welds were not pretty.  It was windy and cold and the steel was dirty.  I didn't bother to clean the crap prior to welding because I knew it would hold to lift the poles out.  The poles are all trash now.  The welder on its max voltage settIng kept on trucking.  The generator worked just fine.  I thought for sure that the circuit breakers were going to trip at full draw, but they didn't. I think your Lincoln 130 will work.    On a side note, I would have preferred stick because it was windy and 230v would have been better.  Sadly, I didn't have a generator 240v adapter for my welder, nor did I have an electrical outlet (120 or 240) available out on the property.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
