My local Lowe's has this hood for $99.95.  It seems like a decent hood except it is the 2x4 lens. Has external shade adjustment and interior sensitivity and delay adjustment. I was thinking about picking it up as a second hood.  Does anyone have any experience with it?http://www.lowes.com/pd_190724-47120...g|1&facetInfo=
Reply:Don't know about that one, but it seems a little high in price. Watch this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=oUhD63fmB-k

Reply:I have the Kobalt and am very happy with it (I'm just a home hobbyist).  Had the HF helmet but smashed it to pieces in a fit of rage when it quit working after little use.If you look online you can find a Lowes coupon for $10 off any purchase of $50 or more.  Coupon is also in the Change of Address kit from the post office....at least it was a couple years ago.
Reply:My buddy has one, he said he liked it. He upgraded to a jackson truesight though if that tells you anything. But it is not something I myself would buy. The components are basically cheap and the lens size is weird on them so you gotta buy their lenses. If your serious at all about the trade and have to have an auto darkener drop the coin on a jackson nextgen, truesight.or miller digital elite. I myself run a truesight and wouldnt trade it for anything.
Reply:I got the HF black cheapy with a coupon a couple years ago when I got started stick welding. No real complaints, the headgear is not that comfortable after awhile. Just used it for about a couple hours today practicing overhead mig, just fine. When I tried lower amp TIG, I got flashed, it is unusable for that. My instructor has the HF Blue Flame as his back up hood, and used it in class. Does everything just fine. I tried it to tig for a bit, seemed ok to me.Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 and WP17. 75A AC is for pipe thawing!HH 140 - new addtion 9/2012.I didn't agree, but hoped for Hope and Change.I got change for myself and my family: for the worse. This is the reality of: Barackalypse Now. Reply:Then spend $20 on a fixed shade hood. $100 is still a lot for a back up or spectator hood.I don't have experience with that Kobalt. Buy it, try it out and dont get any spatter burns on it. Take it back if you don't like.I use the HF to mess with my puppy too, it scares him at first, then he wants to play rough and get me. He's about 70lbs.....If he trashes it, I'll buy the blue flame for $44. with the coupon, lol.I also wear it to answer the door at Halloween for the little kids, they think its a Star Wars thing or something. I put it on to look at the paint samples my wife suggested for some home projects, she failed to appreciate the humor....Maybe I'll wear it to view the next eclipse. If you spend $100 on that, find some fun stuff to do with it! For tig, I splurged for a Speedglas 9100x, love it. Took a chance on New In Box on ebay, $214. Was about to buy a Miller or Jackson when I found it.Last edited by jtcnj; 12-09-2012 at 08:54 PM.Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 and WP17. 75A AC is for pipe thawing!HH 140 - new addtion 9/2012.I didn't agree, but hoped for Hope and Change.I got change for myself and my family: for the worse. This is the reality of: Barackalypse Now. Reply:You cannot even compare a Jackson Truesight to some cheapo AD hood.    Those who try have not used the Truesight..  best hood I have owned.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:I just returned one. It was actually the second one that I had to return. They just never worked right. Maybe just two bad ones though. I've heard that other people really like them.

Reply:For most stuff I use a fixed lens, but autos do help for some projects.I use these for my portable welding. It has taken a lot of abuse, still works and isn't too bulky.http://www.jacksonsafety.com/linkdet...roupid=3023293I got one of these at the local Arcsource store for $75.00.It doesn't have grind mode, but it also doesn't need batteriesI've been using it for about 2 years. On some of the cheap helmets the lens won't display the same amount of tint across the window.   It's annoying as hell, & effectively makes the viewing window even smaller.I have a nicer one for in the shop but it sold for over $300.00.Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
