Well after about 6 years of welding and being a pipefitter and second craft welder (plate cert) I took my ASME sect IX on XX heavy wall with Xray and passed! Here are the pics. Its been a long time coming, and I feel great being I accomplished one of my personal goals. I don't get anymore money for having my pipe cert but I really wanted to do it for myself. Next is TIG root and hot and 7018 out then to the chromes and alloys but I feel I am a much better TIG welder than a stick welder
Reply:Oh and I'm stamp # lucky 13!
Reply:congradulations , its always nice passing..
Reply:congrats,,good job
Reply:Thanks guys!
Reply:Its hard to tell, but it looks like you're right on the border for excess reinforcement in the root. I would take some time and practice those a bit more, cap looks ok.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:Congrats. I'm really suprised they let you ring your welds with a file. But still man congrats good luck with the next round of tests

Reply:Well the filing of the undercut is exactly what some but not all companies are concerned with. Duke Conoco Phillips will run a welder off for ringing the cap. Same thing on their tests. Some companies will allow it. I hide it by putting my buffer wheel hub side out on my grinder. Try it. It works
Reply:Congrats; my number was lucky 13 also. Use it proudly.
Reply:Well I'm talking in general on a pipe weld. Sometimes you got some undercut and file it on the sides but now you got file marks. so I take an old buffer wheel like with 3/8" left of bristles and turn it hub side out and buff the sides of the weld. It tends to hide the file marks |
