My work over the years have had me do welding in some real strange places.  My son beat me on strange places. A few years back my Son got to do some welding in a place very few have ever welded in. Zero gravity. That's a hard one to match. Seems NASA wanted to know if you can weld in space. He was going to Rolla U. In Missouri. They made the robotics to run the tests but had problems with the welder in for lower power needs and weight. I hooked them up with the great guys at Miller. Between the 2 teams they got it to work with all the NASA safty guys.  So I "think" Miller got to do the first zero g  mig welding. They tested the unit out in the NASA "Vomit Comet" air craft.  He is in the aerospace field now and Rolla has run the tests a few more times since then. So I think he's got me beat (for now). I just can't wait to see how you get your Cert. Papers for this welding?  I have tried to post some pics but can't for some reason. Must be why he is in zero g and I'm not.  Lol

Reply:I asked him. Their test were run at about 10 psi air pressure. I think cabin pressure is that or lower. I think they were also looking into full vacuum in time. The gun was exposed to some real cold temps also. The test chamber was vented to 20,000 ft to 40,000 ft outside air temps. If someone could tell me how to post pics from my computer I could show you more. They were having all sorts of feed problems until Miller helped. To keep it simple they used Millers spool gun and hooked it to the robotics. They were welding in a containment chamber. This was done for the lower pressure and aircraft safety. They were also welding aluminum.
Reply:that would be soo cool...just to go on the ride
Reply:the easiest way to post pics would be to go to a site like photobucket upload them copy and past the img code to the thread then use the preview post button to see if it worked350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
