Victor regulator leaking

Hi guys, I've got a little Lincoln Mig welder.  Gas started leaking out of the pressure relief of the regulator today.  My Regulator is the Victor 2570 like this onehttp://www.scottgrossstore.com/servl...-Single/DetailA new one is quite expensive and I only weld a couple of times a year. Can anyone recommend a new one that costs significantly less?  Should I look for a rebuild kit for this one?  Is Victor a superior product. This thing is probably 20 yrs old.

Reply:Is the relief valve leaking around the threads? or somewhere other than there? If it is at the threads you can remove the valve and wrap the threads with T-tape and reinstall the valve tightly. Yes to your other question Victor is a superior product to most,but only using it a couple times a year, you could get buy with a cheaper flow meter if yours couldn't be fixed.
Reply:The Victor 2570 is a regulator flowmeter with a valve seat and diaphragm deisign.  The inexpensive one that sell for $80.00 is psiton type regulators.  The valve seat diaphragm style is more expensive because it has more parts and a more detailed machined body that a psiton style.    Both the valve/diaphragm and psiton style Victor regulators use a  fixed pressure and an adjustable orifice to control flow rates.  New, both units will work the great, however, over time the plastic seat in the psiton sytle will begin to flatten, changing the pressure of the regulator and make the flowmeter less accurate.We do service for Scott Gross and they are a great company.  The rebuild cost for your 2570 through them is probably about $60.00 to $65.00.  Hope this info helps.JimOAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
