I have been assisting a widow with some long overdue garage, cellar, and shed cleaning. Included in the bounty for my efforts is an AIRCO nitrogen regulator and gauge set: cylinder pressure, regulator, and regulated pressure guage.(no pic at this time, camera battery needs charging)Label on back of regulator:Nitrogen 580806 1107 294771Cylinder pressure dial has graduations in psi and cu.ft. at 70°F, up to 260 cuft. Can this be used for other non-flammables such as argon and helium, or is this nitrogen only?- MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:I know for sure it can be used for dry air. I see no reason that it can't be used for other non flammable gasses. In all cases the pecker that goes into the bottle valve will have to be changed to suit the new bottle (gas). If I remember correctly, 580 is the designation of the nitrogen pecker.
Reply:Pics!Yes, there is some surface corrosion at the fittings. I know it can't be used for anything until it has been disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt. I will eventually take it to the LWS to see if they consider it rebuildable, but thought I'd ask here first.- MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:That regulator (CGA580) will fit most inert gas tanks- Argon and Helium as well as Nitrogen. However, it is a high-pressure regulator not a flowmeter so not much use for welding.Nice old regulator, though.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Thanks for the replies.I dropped it off at my LWS this morning, along with Oxy/Ace regulater set gained from the same collection. The prognosis and estimate will be back in a week or so.- MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:Nice grab, some of those old regulators are the best builtwww.triarc.us |
