The beginning of the movie is sped up 100 times and is of me throwing together a bin which holds some kind of liquid. As for specifics, I cannot say because of possible prepriority reasons. But I can say that the inside is made of 12 gauge 316 stainless steel and I'm running 316L s.s. wire on my machine. It's set at roughly 600 IPM, 21 volts and about 165 amps with 98/2 for gas.Because this was my seccond one that I have built, I am still coming up with different ways to assemble it. I later lifted it high enough off the floor so it wasnt hurting my knees and back so badly. You can see I have the wire speed turned up pretty high. One of the difficulties I was having with dragging my weld consistantly was with how I was positioned and how smoothly I could drag my arms across the metal. I am still dealing with that issue from time to time, but it is getting easier now that I am using my back and legs to regulate the speed a little. This is a 16" rule that I have clamped to a tab. It is there to show my inches per minute in real-time. As you can see I'm cooking along at a pretty fast pace. If I dont, I'll blow through the sides because of the amount of heat I'm dealing with. If I go to fast, I dont get the correct fusion in my weld as you see later in the movie.I've tried different settings, speeds and angles of attack, where as this setting seems to produce the best looking weld with the least amount of spatter because it's in a spray transfer mode. I still get a little bit of spatter if I slow down too much or if my gun is at the wrong angle. Between 15 degrees and 40 degrees was ideal.[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfCiJnG6J20[/ame]Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:nice presentation.got me thinking. id probly have tigged it and taken a lifetime to make it.those welds looked good, appart for the obvious parts.even after you fix them your still far quicker.G
Reply:Fantastic. You really get moving along there and the results look great. Your oops is my par for the course. Nice workspace and equipment. Nice box, that s it, I'm gonna go kick a can around I am jealous Mike
Reply:Thanks for the vid Brainfarth!Looking at the real time welding I thought somebody had a BugO in there. How do you check seal quality? that;s a fair size tank.Matt
Reply:Great video !
Reply:no pack purging needed for migging stainless? can we see a picture of the outside?that "actual speed" is still pretty darn fast.
Reply:If they are not all welded out when I get to work tomorrow, I'll take some photos.. I did have occasional bouts of sugar when I was running too hot or slow. But that really isnt an issue since they get some broke pieces of steel welded to the outside corners. When I questioned a spot in my weld, I would have someone with a bottle of snoop (soap and water) on the outside while I put compressed air to the weld on the inside.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Those are the nicest SS wire welds I've seen. Awesome video, I picked up several pointers just from watching! Thanx a million! Keep up the good work

Reply:Looks like a grape bin. We got lots around here too as we are also in grape country. Reply:98 argon 2 oxygen. Its needed to get the spray transfer. Tri mix is used for short arc on stainless.Ranger 250 GXTSmith Gas Axe
Reply:whoa have you given the 308-t1 a chance im sure the solid wire is cheaper but the speed is wild 045 and 1/16 lays in so fast and looks great

Reply:Great looking welds for wire feed. Curious if you are concerned about carbide precipitationrunning that hot on SS? I know I've cooked the shi*t out of some 304L a time or two and made stainless that wasn't so chemical resistant anymore.Great looking work again.
Reply:Good video but I hate the stupid music.Does not fit at all.I would rather have had you talking on the video.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
Reply:Hey I like the music, P Roach baby! Nice welds by the way.
Reply:What Airco machine is that? A buddy of mine picked up an Airco DC arc machine and an AC/DC tig machine from a school auction a while back for $75 each. I think they are 300amp machines.
Reply:Couldn't help but notice you welding through your chains. Thats a no no. Nice work on the fab/welding.
Reply:I talk enough as it is..dont need that in my videos also. Dunno much about that machine.. But it does run good from time to time. It dosnt go very low though.I was resting the box on the table to get my ground. Although I should have been using an isolator for the chain.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom. |
