looking at the spectrum 875 or a =i have used tweco arcair to cut outold welds will the 875 cut out weldsas good
Reply:Yes, plasma will gouge welds out nicely. I expect that the 875 is no exception. However, carbon gouging only requires enough access room for a carbon rod and the air blast; and even that access can be tight at times. With plasma it's necessary to maintain the torch oriented in close proximity to the work, and that's tough at times. For example, think about gouging out a deep crack or weld. Also, a plasma torch is not so forgiving about being buried into molten slag. With carbon it's not necessary for the torch handle to be so close to the inferno. Please don't interpret this as a plasma bash, because of course there are many plasma applications that the Air-arc can't touch. And Air-arc of course is a one-trick pony. I guess it boils down to the type of welds you expect to gouge, and your other uses for plasma.Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 03-22-2010 at 09:28 PM.
