I've had a couple different reject & re-weld jobs recently with different looking setups than you usually see for a borewelder. Usually borewelders are stuck on big things for portable welding and machining or used to clad tubing with special materials. The first vid is a part with two 1.625" bores about 3" long. I also covered the camera lens with a #8 shade shortly after the weld starts for a better look.  This  video also shows the crap you can run into with welding castings for folks wondering why everything is fine and then POOF!   All settings & parameters are in the video; It took a while to set the one above up. Usually the borewelder is fastened to the part with clamps or a tack nut/plate.Below is another part with a larger bore that set up easy, again this time the welder is not attached to the part being welded. This one was also a casting but had no junk in the part near the weld area. All settings noted in the vid;MattLast edited by Matt_Maguire; 04-30-2011 at 02:41 PM.
Reply:Good video Matt.  I have never seen an automated bore welder in action before.  In your opinion, does the bore welding provide a better finished product, than would pressing in a sized sleeve or welding in a piece of tubing and redrilling to the correct size?Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
Reply:I keep thinking about the amount of heat that gun is subjected to. One rugged gun. "The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:will that same machine also work for larger bores? Thanks for the video's very neat stuff
Reply:That was very cool to watch. You get what you put in and people get what they deserve...
Reply:Awesome vid, this will show my ignorance, I had no idea such machines existed. Does the rotational speed and axial "pull" get programmed in to a controller or is that controlled on the fly by the operator? Is the 17 volt setting just below spray" speed? (only recently heard of spray mig and I am mostly ignorant bout that as well. ) How much machineing is required after the weld process( if mentioned in second vid I apologize, ran out of time to watch and my wifi kept going on the fritz)Mike
Reply:Whenever someone is using our boretech welder at work I like to walk by and tell them that's what it looks like when I hand weld.To answer the question about bore size, we utlize ours to weld up transmission bores over a meter in diameter on large steel castings. Just takes a different torch and some care setting it up. But after that, it's put your feet up and let it run.
Reply:Round and round...up and down...
