I have some cash burning a hole in my poicket and I can't decide which TIG welder to buy. I'm wanting to make sure I get enough welder to do some repairs on my aluminum plateboat. The boat is all 3/16. I will not weld more than 1/4" alum.I have been pondering the Miller Dynasty 200. any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.I am looking to keep my tab under 3000 dollars. Most of my welding will be on 1/8" alum.ThanksRandyLincoln Power Mig 300 with PythonLincoln SquareWave Tig 255 Hypertherm Powermax 45 HH120 w/argon
Reply:250 pr 300 amp AC/DC HF with WP17 torch should do the job. using Argon 100%. JGSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:I'm sorry I have been looking hard at the Syncro 200. Any thoughts on this unit.RandyLincoln Power Mig 300 with PythonLincoln SquareWave Tig 255 Hypertherm Powermax 45 HH120 w/argon
Reply:If your considering the syncro 200 you might want to take a look at the TA 185, more bells and whistles.
Reply:Thermal arc units (185 or 200) are just as nice as the millers or lincolns and usually cost less.
Reply:I have a Maxstar, and have played with a dynasty...like them both...I got to TIG with a synchrowave last night..that's a sexy beast...Lincoln Weldpak 100Miller Maxstar 150Cutmaster 82Victor OA torch set...somewhere around here...
Reply:Ive had a syncro 180 and had no trouble with aluminum parts in the thickness you described.UA Local 598
Reply:It will depend on what kind of power supply you want to dedicate to the welder, and what features you want in the machine. The Dynasty beats the synchro 200 on a lot of features, and it uses less power. The TA is also a good choice. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:I've been really happy with the Dynasty 200DX. Cheapest new ones I've seen are just below $3k. You'll blow your budget a little after you get the reg/flowmeter, pedal, air-cooled torch and a few consumables. A water cooled setup is nice, but would blow the budget even more (unless you homebrew the cooler, or just run tap water once through). The air cooled setup would probably let you get the job done, but you'd have to keep the duty cycle down. If you're doing a lot of aluminum the 200 may be a little small. I do mostly 1/4" and smaller steel and only occasionally some small aluminum, and I haven't really needed more power. I was considering the sync250 versus the dynasty200. I went with the dynasty for the weight and portability.Last edited by AndyA; 03-31-2010 at 07:32 PM.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
