One of may better stick welds. I just picked up the stick welder last week so I am still learning. be easy on me I am just a newbe. but do feel free to tell me how I can do better 130 amps {no idea on the voltage i need to put a volt meter to it} 6011 rod 1/4 inch pipe to about 1/8 inch plate. i did clean the area to be welded .2-Lincoln idealarc 250/250, lincoln 225 ac/dc welder, lincweld ac 180c, hobart handler 210, hobart stickmate lx 235/160, Hypertherm Powermax30local 26 I.B.E.W Electrician
Reply:It is hard to tell for sure with the picture but 130 amp seems alittle high, you might try backing the amps off and using a whip motion with the 6011 rod. Good luck with future attempts pratice makes perfect.Miller XMT 304Lincoln Buzz BoxVictor Cutting Torch OutfitHobart Generator/Welder
Reply:looks like your to hot with all the splater try turning it down a little 1/8 6011 should run good at 100-120
Reply:welcome ansd congrats on the baby.just for info, pipe is described by the diameter..that looks like 6 "or 8 "..and yes the wall is about 1/4 inch although there are pipes with thicker walls.you using an ac machine with the 6011 ?
Reply:Dont bother putting a voltmeter on it, the reading that you would get while not welding is going to be from 50-70 volts most likely. This is known as OCV (open circuit voltage) Its higher than normal to aid in arc starting. You voltage while welding will vary depending on your arc length and machine, but I think it should be somewhere around 14 volts.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:for using that dirty of metal i would switch to a 6010 electrode and use a hot whiping motion
Reply:6010 and 6011 are virtually the same, one for DC, the other for AC or DC.
