I'm on the market for a new torch setup (gauges, torch, etc.) I've always used victor torches but I've been hearing a lot of good things about smith equipment, such as the warranty and its craftsman ,,and that its not made in china ... Give me some feedback in which setup I should go with I've never used smith eq either .Last edited by Rbsalinas02; 01-18-2013 at 01:41 AM.
Reply:Check your LWS and see what they sell. Either brand is good. In Texas, Victor is king.
Reply:Smith is top of the line, but not as common as Victor. I've gotten good deals on both from Craigslist."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:I have them all, I went through a Victor stage, now I have Smith, both top quality stuff. Make sure you buy real Victor not the lower end imported crap.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:We had victor and now all smith. They do have a lifetime warranty too on some models.

Reply:We used to be Victor then we changed to Smith for about 5 years and then switched back to Victor. The Smith tips seem to get messed up easier when doing initial demo work that is in tight places when you get pops and accidentally bump the tip. The Smith works excellent as "bench" torch. True they have a lifetime warranty but it was taking a month+ to get them back. Reply:Victor tips and parts are easier to find.
Reply:I have both. I like Harris better for cutting and the big propane rose buds. The small Victor is nice for light duty work with a small flame.DanD.
Reply:I have 4 Smiths and I love them. I just aquired a Victor and so far itis nice too. And I have a new Oxweld (ESAB) that just screams heavy duty industrial. Most Smith torches are lifetime warranty. All ESAB (Oxweld and Purox), regulators and torches are lifetime warranty. If I had to choose one, it would be Smith. I run oxy/propane."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:I have a smith and use it for every thing. The lifetime warranty is awesome . And I just got a victor torch a few days a ago for heavy duty cutting jobs and for scraping stuff . Got it used of eBay for a good deal I have not yet used it it looks to be rebuilt . Does any one have a straight cutting torch like to get in to tight corners .Millermatic 211 with mvp plugs miller titanium series welding helmetstihl chain saws 8 ft welding table
Reply:Harris uses Harris best heating tips and machine torches . Made by Lincoln , the only welder we use . Fabricating for 103 years cant be wrong . Cutting 17 inches with natural gas too.We are Lincolns largest user in NJ tons per week.
Reply:Smith here, because that's what I bought used from Tbone in the weldingweb classifieds when I was first getting a torch last year and wanted an aircraft torch. They market the welding tips as having a soft flame and I kind of agree compared ot the Victor tips we used in class. The soft flame is kind of nice in a wierd way. For me it's a toss up but I definitely like the torch and tips. Also, if you want the lifetime Smith warranty, that doesn't come with their lower price line IIRC.Oh, their regular single stage regs are solid.
Reply:Smith and Harris regulators are fine but, as far as I'm concerned, you can't beat Victor torches and tips.
Reply:I have always used Victor. I like the way they are built and setup. I just got a preference for them over time. I have never used any other brand for any length of time so I can't say they are good or bad.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
