Hello GroupI have wanted to give kinetic art ( rolling ball sculpture ) a go for awhile, the first thing was a ring roller, some I have seen looked a bit ordinary,  (I'm not saying mine will be better but I didn't want track with kinks in it ) so I built the mK 1 roller, First photo . I looked like no thought or planning went into it AND when tried out without any metal, the vertical column flex 12mm from vertical - in about 500mm.The next three photos are of the Mk 2 roller, used a 1800mm lenght od U bean, the jack sites on a 12mm plate assembly that is fixed to the column with 4 12mm hi-tensile bolts, as it the top assembly, the column has 12mm gussetts welded between the front and back flanges, the moving bit in the middle just carries the rollers and drive, a 12 ton jack pushes with enough force to roll the 70mm by 16mm bar in the phot ( and sort of straighten it to ).Should be an overkill to roll 5mm stainless rod!!!Ed Attached Images

Reply:Great Build! What is the diameter of the shaft? How many tooth sprockets did you use? ThanksKroekerMiller Trailblazer 302Miller Dial ArcMiller Suitcase 12RCVictor Torch
Reply:Hello Jim, Kroeker, Et AlThanks for the comments, the rollers are about 70mm in dia'. Was what I could get locally, the bottom rollers are about 100mm long, the top about 90mm, I was limited by the length of material, the grooves in the rollers are about 5mm wide and 4 deep, I thought they might make rolling the wire easier, and, if two rolled at the same time it may be easier getting them close to the same radius, the sprockets are 24 tooth and are just smaller than the rollers.I am making a stand to go on my mig welder to hold the leads and a tig welder I have bought. I rolled two 900mm lengths of 70mm by 5mm flat, couldn't get the radius I wanted as the top roller was fouling the chain, the " quick & dirty " fix was just that but it works, the ball bearing couldn't go much lower as i would hit the returning chain. Anything else I thought of would take more work and I wanted to crack on with the stand.Ed Attached Images
Reply:Sweet Jesus! You could make a Roller COASTER with that thing! Nice!200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
