I am a novice welder trying to improve my mig welding and making sure my machine (Lincoln 100 HD) is set up correctly. Are different tips used for gas vs gasless welding? Also I saw something on You Tube about using grease for the tip-what is this grease called? Thanks!
Reply:Tips should be the same.  They do get matched to wire size though.   The stuff you are talking about is anti-spatter and you can get it in spray or gel form.  It keeps the weld spatter and slag from sticking to the tip of the gun. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Reply:Electrode negative if you go flux core.Last edited by AKmud; 11-22-2012 at 11:50 PM.
Reply:ok thanks guys
Reply:Good timing.  I'm just setting up my new Lincoln 180 and had the same question about the large nosel tip because someone in a video said to use different tips for flux and gas but the machine only comes with one.Good luck with your welding.  I hope to power mine up for the first time tomorrow.  After work today I'm picking up scraps from a local fab shop to start my learning/playing.

Reply:Thanks Ed.  I'll pick up a Fluxcore Nozzle soon.  Going to start the journey with gas.
Reply:Thanks for the input-happy welding
Reply:Ok so I want to now weld with gas. I have a bottle of gas that came with the machine-in going from .035 flux core wire to ,025 gas wire do I need to change out the drivewheel-not sure I am using the right term-thank you.
Reply:Drive wheel for flux core is knurled although I've had no feeding issues with the V groove which is standard for solid wire. The risk with V groove drive rolls with flux core is crushing the wire if you tighten it too much. If my machine had a longer whip, I'de be more concerned about it.Make sure the drive roll is sized for the wire though. Should be stamped on the side of it.NickESAB CaddyTig 2200iPowermax 45MM140 (Sold)
Reply:Ok great thanks alot
Reply:You can't feed .025 wire with .035 rolls.  They won't grip the wire no matter how tightly you adjust them.  Many feed rolls have two grooves in them ... not sure about your Lincoln.  They will be marked on the side.  For .025 wire, turn them with the 25 (or 23) facing out.Dynasty 300DXSmith He/Ar gas mixerMM350PHobart Handler 120Smith LW7, MW5, AW1A
