I just received a trailer from my brother that doesn’t have any lights or a licenses bracket on it. I have included three pictures of its current state. The trailer deck is 7ft wide and 8ft long and will barley fit through my gate as it is with out the addition of lights on the sides. How could I mount the lights with out adding width to the trailer and how would you fabricate a licenses plate bracket.    I have an electric winch that I would like to add to the front of the trailer from time to time. The winch is set up on a receiver that can be moved from the truck to my lawn tractor and I would like it to be on the trailer when needed. How would I make a mount for this to add it to the trailer? Thanks in advance for all your thoughts and ideas.
Reply:you could build light boxes into the rear frame and then use oval lights.  You need about a 3 1/2"-4" tall box to fit the lights into.  The box will hit the ground when you tilt, but they should survive. My name's not Jim....
Reply:Just use a piece of receiver tube vertically to accept your winch. Weld it on the tongue and gusset it to the front rail of the trailer. For the back I would Just do as suggested make them out of some heavy box and sink the lights into them.HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Idealarc SP250Miller 180 AC StickBy farmall:They should have held the seagull closer to the work, squeezing evenly for best deposition.
Reply:I would make the drive from indiana to maine and drop that trailer off at my house!! I'm looking for one just like it to build an ice shack on!!!
Reply:I also needed a winch on my trailer and came up with this. Its an old truck hitch that was laying around and got recycled. Attached Images
Reply:You can use magnetic tail lights , they cost 10.00 on sale at harbor freight. The tail light and winchsetups kinda depend on what you plan on hauling. Before I hauled anything that needed a winch to pull it up on that deck I would reinforce that frame and tongue quite a bit . I had a tilt trailer with double the frame and it was barely able to haul an MG. Just something to think about. I do like tilt trailers though, they can be really handy.
Reply:Boostinjdm, I like you idea of light boxes. I will have to see if that will work with out tearing them off when I tilt the trailer. trapperjohn, I love this idea, however I do not have an old truck hitch laying around but that does give me some ideas. joe6, this trailer came from Mich. it was used to haul snow mobiles on. My brother tells me that there is an auction every week somewhere juse North of Indiana that he goes to find deals like this. allfluxedup, I dont think that I need to beef it up any because it was designed and built to haul snow mobiles on, all the frame is 1/4" and only surface rust. WOOOO HOOOO Nothing to repair. Thanks for all the ideas that all have posted, I will post pictures as I work on this trailer (if the rain ever stops), thanks again.
Reply:Ask your friends/neighbors if they have an old receiver laying around. Most people are glad to get them out of their garage if they no longer have the vehicle that they fit.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"
Reply:If there's a cross member under the trailer deck you could use a couple pieces of 2x2 angle facing each other a few inches apart and bolt it through the deck and cross member.  Make sure they are spaced far enough apart to fit the winch mount in between them and drill a couple holes through the angle for the hitch pin.
