I have a Torchmate 2x4 and started building the water table for it yesterday.  Here is the main frame.  I am waiting for my machine torch to show up so I can cut some parts for the table.Yes, those are zip ties temporarily holding the plasma table to the main frame.  I will remove them later.  I just didn't want the kids running out into the garage and knocking it off of the frame in my absence.I will build a removable water tray for it next, add some casters, maybe some gussets, and I plan on adding an extendable arm for a computer and electronics. Reply:If you don't go with the AVHC, and go with a 2x2 to start (which can be upgraded later), you can probably get in it for about $3000.The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
Reply:I't a crime what they charge for that setup, Remember when VCR's first came out? The small CNC's will some day be much cheaper, It's much less sophisticated than a PC...I think the  china man will come thru shortly....
Reply:And you will get typical Chinese crap. Sure it will work OK for a little bit, and then you'll spend twice as much rebuilding it...Fire!, Fire! Oh wait, that's my torch...Lincoln PT-225 TIGLincoln 175 MIG

Reply:There are message boards and Youtube videos that teach you how to build your own.  They are still not cheap either, but you can save some money.
Reply:Awesome John, let me know when you are finished. I will come down and help you use it!.Nice welds btw. Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler

Reply:Cheapest I have found closest to me is Metal Mart in Lehi.  Economy Pipe and Steel in Spanish Fork can't come close to even matching metal marts prices.  The more you buy from metal mart, the larger the discount they can give you.The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
Reply:I forgot to mention.... Metal Mart charges and arm and a leg for cutting material.  They do, however, allow you to use their power to cut your own material out on the sidewalk/street.  Just bring a chop saw (or whatever you use to cut your material) and an extension cord (though they let me borrow their cord) and they will bring the material out to the sidewalk for you on a fork lift (this is assuming you can't carry 20-24' lengths like me).  I cut mine up out there, load it in the trailer, and am on my way.The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
Reply:Hey, Good to know, thanks. I use them and Wasatch Steel. The owner is a bit strange, but the prices are decent.I plan on getting some plate to make a heavier table top as the weather warms.Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler
Reply:Nice work John, super clean welds. Is that a Millermatic 252 your using? I've been eyeing that one up. Keep us posted on the progress.I'm still in the planning stages of designing my own CNC table. I've got a Hypertherm Powermax 45 to do the cutting. I am planning to build from scratch. I am hoping to use the UBOB, Gecko drives, servos and power souce from Tom over at CandCNC. Most of my research time is being spent on the electronics end of things. I really enjoy the research.Nice looking build.Gordhttp://gordsgarage.wordpress.com/

Reply:Here is my progress today.  I created the structure to hold the water pan.  I will anchor one side so that it can pivot, and then the front will be able to drop so I can remove the tray.  The last couple of pictures are a sheet metal brake I added to my welding table to build/bend the pan.  I got the idea from this guy: Attached ImagesThe Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --

Reply:Real nice table, wish i had a shop to put one in...lol...... Question? Does anybody remember seeing a site from canada from a guy that built a mount on the wall pattern cutter that folded down and used one drivemotor with a magnet, i use to have a video from him but lost it i guess. I was sure it was a torchmate, but not the cnc kind.......anybody know????If you see me running for no apparent reason, try to keep up:"Reality" What a concept!Miller Big 40 {1972} vintage, with 150 ft. of 000 leads, old Alaskan pipline welder.

Reply:Hi John  New to welding but i have been lurking on this site for a while. You said you got a good price on the steel. What size and how much did it cost. I found a place locally where i can buy surplus steel for .50 cents a pound. Stored outside and some surface rust. Just wondering if this is a good deal or not. Thanks

Reply:I have a mask that I wear when cutting.... and I keep the garage open for now.... but you are right.  Without a water table or down draft table, I have dust EVERYWHERE.....  My family reunion ends tomorrow morning, so I hope to work on it some more tomorrow afternoon.  I hope that by Wednesday night I can have the water table portion complete.  I will post more pics of my progress. The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
Reply:I know it doesn't look like much, but I finished the water pan tonight (well, still have to add a drain to it), and the whole support system (no pictures) for the pan is complete.  Tomorrow I hope to cut the slats for it and have the water pan portion of the table done....Not my prettiest welds either, but I believe they will hold water.  Pan is 4" deep. Also, the pan is made of cold rolled 18 ga steel (measures 17 gauge)..... much tougher to bend than I thought it would.  While bending it I picked up my welding table (one side) and it had about 150 lbs of scrap in a bin on that side too.  I estimate it was around 250-300 lbs that I picked up to bend that sheet (on the long side).  I destroyed my sheetmetal brake in the process (attached to my welding table).  I will have to build it stronger if I ever need to bend another pan...... good times. Reply:Made some progress today.  Took about 3 hours but I finally got all of the alignment done for the table and locked things down.  Cut some slat holders for the water table.[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qtco1mS156I[/ame]Wife told me to pick up a fire extinguisher after she saw it cutting for the first time..... said I was going to set the house on fire or something like it.   Attached ImagesThe Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --

Reply:Quite slick. I think that's the kind of machine one could make some money with, don't you think?Question: is the water level a bit too close? I would think it might cause some problems coming up through the work and contacting with the torch?Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler
Reply:I hope to make some money with it.  We will see what happens.Regarding the water level, you can have it even closer.  The torch isn't built to run submerged though (although Jim Colt said that some people do run it that way).  Because of the air flow, the water stays out of the torch. You can run the water right up to the bottom of the plate, but then you get more dross.  I am keeping it about 1/2 down.  Dross hasn't been bad.The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
Reply:Originally Posted by Mick120Hey John,Take my advice and get that water table done before you cut too much more plate coz, that plasma dust is lethal stuff....you've probably noticed how it contaminates the area anyway.I've been plasma cutting for over eight years now and, started out small like yourself. My early dust control ideas were crap but, I now run a full downdraft system, pumping about 4000 cfm....of course my table is a bit bigger than the lil Torchmate.Looks like you're having fun.
