Just curious to know your thoughts on this: http://tigtarget.com/When I first looked at this I was thinking, wtf. Since I'm not an experienced welder, thought I'd see what others felt about this. I'm not a fan of how the site is designed. I was scanning over it and it seemed to take me a while to figure out what the heck is going on, even now I'm a bit confused. If I'm a newb and newbs are their potential targets, maybe a revamp on the site would be a good idea. Not that the website is the what I want to focus on here, but what are your thoughts on this 'training tool'?
Reply:You can't be serious...........zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Seems like a load of b.s. I'd like to see a video!http://www.facebook.com/LockhartMetalArthttp://www.facebook.com/pages/Grumpy...44306259043484
Reply:I'm trying to keep an open mind about it, just hard to take it seriously (also why I commented on the poor design of webpage). I'm trying to think around the crappy presentation and wonder if this could possibly have any value.Basically, the way I read it now...1.) Take your rod and touch it to our pointy piece of metal. It will be super awesome.
Reply:Is this some kind of April Fool's Day joke? Also, how does one "ruin your TIG torch" by feeding filler wrong, as the website claims???

Reply:I even did a search before posting (on here and Google) to see if anyone else wrote about this, didn't find anything. Surprised me.
Reply:Opps. Someone already posted the same thing.
Reply:I can already feel the pat on the back using my trusty tig target for target practice. They have a stainless steel version where you put a plastic bag over your head and fill it with argon.. there is also the pipeline welder version where you drink a bottle of scotch, spin around in a circle then start feeding the 6" tig wire into the joint. There's also the Mig welding Practice version where you Erotic asphyxiate yourself with a belt and try to feed wire into that little triangle GiJoe action figure shield thing.. They may call you "Gasper the Ghost" after a while though..46’ sae30047’ sa200 w/Wisconsin VF451’ shorthood56’ shorthood56’ shorthood68’ redface69 redface07’ ranger 305G13’ sae300Inconel/Hastelloy – SS – Duplex – Chrome/Carbon Tig – F3Downhand – STT/RMD – F3F4 – B Pressure

Reply:why do i have the feeling some machine shop made some parts wrong and had to eat the cost.  they sat around and asked, "so.....what can we do with these?"
Reply:Soooo, some guy with a harbor freight lathe in his basement just figured out a nifty way to use his compound rest. "Ohhhh, I can make a CONEEEEEE. Now what to do with my new cones? Ohh ohh ohh, I'll feed tig rods at them, that simulates welding right? I should sell these"PATTEN PENDING.

Reply:Well, I've done some work on the subject and the reason why is that I couldn't very well feed .040 wire into a tiny puddle. The wire wiggles for most folks. But, if you practice with wire that is not being consumed, all you are doing is backing your hand away from the target. That, of course, is not how feeding the rod works. So, any stationary "target" that isn't a molten puddle consuming your rod is pointless. So you know that already. If someone really wanted to practice cold, they would push a ball bearing in a "V" or something that moves as if your rod is being consumed and you can advance it leaving your feed hand in one place.I suppose most weldor's rod guides, holders, etc, are subject to ridicule including mine. All I know is that I can hit the target easier when using MIG wire as my TIG filler. When working to make a better version (not introduced at this point), I spent plenty of time working the rod cold.Doesn't help at all. You have to weld to know how to feed the rod.__________________

Reply:I'd say get a nail, set it on the head, and practice touching the filler rod to the point. Or maybe get a longer piece of filler and try to keep the business end steady as you feed it forward and backward while you watch tv or something. As for these medico isolation feet for a CD player...I'd ratherut that 1300 towards a plasma table.138# anvilHomebuilt 6 tap kegerator100# cone anvil5" post viceVarious hammers ranging from 250g to 2000gSome tongsA few screwdriversA wrench or twoOh, and a Fronius TPS 2700

Reply:I must have one!At first I thought some shop had tons of these drops from a project but then I see the pic at the bottom of the page of a mini lathe turning just these parts. lolWhats with the main welding pic? What is this about:
Reply:Originally Posted by herbet99I'm trying to learn how to TIG weld myself. I thought the goal was to push the puddle toward the feed rod as you dip the rod into the puddle. So if done correctly, You would not be moving the rod toward the puddle because the amount the rod shortens, because of a dip into the puddle, would be the same distance you are pushing the puddle forward for the next dip.Does that make sense?

Reply:Think you can set it to randomly contaminate the tungsten with the filler rod?  Or do you just every so often yell fVck and throw your imaginary torch? If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience.
