I bought 4 car dollies to put under the tires on my Mustang to roll it around the garage. They were cheaper to buy than try to build. But the casters on them suck. Just wondering if anyone has ever replaced these casters and what kind are better for pushing aroud. The hard plastic, metal or Neopreme i think are the other ones.
Reply:you need some casters that have bearings. if you have to much weight on normal casters they will roll like dookey..
Reply:Yep, thats what they came with, junk wheels. I planned on getting ones with bearings, just didnt know if the wheel composition would make a big difference or not. Its a pain to push around right now.
Reply:The hard plastic tend to get dents in them when they sit static with a long time load (like car projects). The steel and or cast ones hit the tiniest little obstacles and you'd think it was a boulder. I've got some old rubberized ones out in the shop that have all kinds of material and objects imbedded in them.  Pcik your poison. Maybe there is a magic material out there somewhere. Reply:I use the polyurethane coated steel wheels http://tinyurl.com/44jcydy , they don't lock up running over a shadow like the solid ones and they'll roll over slight depressions/humps in the floor. They aren't cheap tho.....Mike
Reply:We bought 4 for our cars we're fixing. Moved the cars about ten feet and the metal on the corners started to bend so I took em back. I thought about modifying them but I thought "damit I paid for working dollies. Not something I could put more money into".  I think a guy has to buy better quality or build their own.
