I always get a wavy vertical seam in the cylindrical tanks we fabricate. Do i need to add more tacks? skip weld? all the above?
Reply:All the above. It couldn't hurt. Too much...
Reply:From my experience I have found the most helpful technique to be backstepping welds. If your normal weld sequence is 1-2-3-4-5, instead weld 2-1, 3-2, 4-3, 5-4Have we all gone mad?
Reply:how thick are these tanks?
Reply:Are you using strong backs or Chicago Plates?
Reply:You could always look into a process with lower heat input. We've gone to pulsed GMAW on some of our stainless and duplex nuclear applications.
Reply:Ive welded maybe a thousand or so cylinders rolled out of 12 gauge through 1/4 inch material in both 304 and mild steel. We dont seem to have much of a problem. What gauge are you welding and what process? |
