welding with contacts?

hey i was wondering if anyone welds in contact? I have herd stories bout wearing them and its not good but there just stories and dont know if they are true.  Im gettingtired of wearing perscription glasses and want to know if anyone has had issues with wearing contacts while welding.  THese may be dumb questions but to me it doenst hurt to ask lol

Reply:I've heard of guys welding 10-12 hours with contact lenses in and then their pupils fell out of their eye balls.  Needless to say once they fall out they are very difficult to find.

Reply:I was a machinist/fabricator/welder for 7 years wearing contacts for a good 6 years of it and I only started having problems with dirt in my eyes after I had surgery and no longer needed the contacts.  In a way the contacts can actually help you, acting as a second layer of protection.  There were a few times I had a chip get past my safety glasses and inbed itself in my contact, I just took the contact out and put in a fresh one.  The problem is if anything gets between the contact and your eye, no fun at all, I had that happen to me while camping, the doc told me I couldn't wear them for a week while my eye healed.Some contacts are also rated to block UV light.  My eye doctor always told me he didn't recommend them for my line of work though.The other effect of wearing contact lenses is that you become accustomed to getting your fingers right up to your eye without blinking.  That comes in handy when you do have to remove debris from your eye.  I can look right in a mirror, find dirt and take it out with the corner of a paper towel.~Alex

Reply:I welded with contacts and the contacts presented no problem, my eyesight did. I needed cheaters in addition to the vision correction from the contacts due to near nearsightedness.  I did wear safety glasses in addition to the contacts
Reply:The only problem I encounter is dry eyes from not blinking as often it is okay but keep some saline handy and you may need a set of cheaters depending on your type of eye correction. I not only wear contacts  while welding but do it while doing metalwork in body shop. Just use very good face protection when grinding. Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk 2
Reply:I almost feel stupid asking this, but are you in Copenhagen, Denmark?  If so, what is the market like over there?  What does a welder or ironworker make there?My girlfriend is Danish and I am just curious.  She told me there is a shortage of skilled labor and she thinks that welders get paid very well.  If I am mistaken, then I am nearsighted so I have nothing to contribute to this thread. hahaBeck's Welding and Fabrication, Inc.-Misc.
