Found a post on another forum where a guy welded up part of the combustion chamber on a flat head motorcycle to increase the compression. When I asked what rod he used, his response was "part nickel for welding cast iron, no preheating needed, run at 100 amps". Can anyone tell me what rod fits that description? I'm interested in trying the same thing on my bike. ThanksZimm
Reply:Could have been Ni99 or Ni55, then again I have used CuNi and Nickle Bronze. There are alot of options out there.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:A retired friend of mine was a fan of McKay Cast-Alloy 60 because it worked well without pre heat.I tig cast and use Eureka 5545 or Crown 55/45-10
Reply:Looks like the McKay Cast-Alloy 60 is the same or very similar to Ni55."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder |
