Reply:huh: why on the Dinse connnector MisterB? I think of Teflon tape as a sealant, though it could also be thought of as an anti-seize I suppose... Seems to me it just reduces the contact area for current transfer in that case, but maybe you've had problems with seizing? My machine lives inside, so it's a mild environment.Miller XMT304 CC/CVBernard TIG coolerSSC foot pedal"It's a poor craftsman who blames his tewls toles TOOLS" (!^$#% keyboard)

Reply:Originally Posted by OscarIsn't what you meant to say was that it's not a tapered fitting?  The threads don't actually do the sealing like NPT style fittings which do benefit from Teflon tape;  in most tig torches the rounded nipple on the end is what creates a seal when it butts up against the other mating connector.
Reply:I put a very small amount of Teflon paste on the end tapered portion of the flare fitting.  As mentioned above, the threads don't do the sealing, the flared end does.I can't get my regulator flare to fully seal without it.  I always get a tiny leak.  It's just cheap insurance, you gotta apply a tiny amount and smear along the face of the fitting.  Others may disagree, but it works for me.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:I was told  you don't need tape or dope anywhere on a TIG machine .. and I didn't. Nothing leaked. Had to tighten a few fittings pretty tight, though.
