So i have a small aluminum frame for something im building.1" 6061 Tube .125 wall10" x 6" x 12"Miller recommends the following:3/32" Ceriated3/32 Filler 40XX?90-120 Amps *high*???17CFH12 IPMNow they dont list the AC balance any ideas on what i should set that to?This is not a Rigid structure or anything so peoples lives dont depend on it. But i would like it to hold about 30-40 lbs. I would prefer it not to warp at all though. All the corners are cut at 45 degree angles. I was planning on making the top and the bottom of 10x6 rectangles and then welding the cross pieces together. Thanks for your help o Great Welding masters =)
Reply:3/32 tung and filler sizes are fine. Set amps to 150 or more and control the heat with the pedal. Set balance at 70-80% penetration, 20-30% cleaning. Use 4043 filler alloy. On the warping, clamp everything down and weld the 4 outside corners first, then the 8 tops and bottoms, then the 4 inside corners last.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I have no idea about wave balance and all of the other happy crap..Don't have it..Don't NEED it.Start with the best fit up you can get...Go with around 150 amps and use the pedal to get the heat you want...The parts should mate all around the joints...No.."It's Off A Little Here And A Little There"...Thats where the trouble of out of square starts...Small bevel around the mating edges...Clean all parts with acetone and the joints with a Stainless Toothbrush with said Acetone..CLEAN rag to wipe after..Clamp one piece to the edge of your table corner and add the next piece and clamp..Use your square on the inside edge when clamping...Start with tacking one corner on the top..Outside edge then the inside..Then add the next piece...Repeat...Then the last piece...Kinda like spinning it around as we go...Measure corner to corner to make sure it is square..Weld the tops on one side then flip it over and do the other side...Then do the inner corners then the outer corners...Done!There should be no warping or anything to that effect when done right..If you hear a tack snap while welding on another area STOP! and re tack the broken one..You'll be glad you did......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I love how some posters buy a cheap POS Chinese welder and then run to Miller's website to learn how to set it up.If everyone put price above quality, I wonder how long Miller would be around to fund their website.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:No.Just thought that it was funny that of your 70 or so posts, nearly half deal with political issues and your position of what's wrong with this country. Then you turn around and send your money to China.Your comment about needing a plasma cutter doesn't cut it either. 98% of the "hobby" welders out there don't "need" a plasma. They just don't know enough about welding/fabrication to realize it. I worked (cut, fabbed, and welded) for 40 years without one.Yea, you really need a plasma cutter to cut 1" aluminum square tube. How'd that work out?Yes and I did read your post where you put PRICE ahead of QUALITY.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:If the Chinese made a welder comparable to the Miller, it would cost twice as much. Did you ever ask yourself the question about why the US major welding manufacturers have decided NOT TO build the combo tig/plasma machines? The attitude/expectations of some of the newbie's that post on this forum is just amazing. Typical of the "something for nothing/no effort/instant gratification" generation. On 4/20/10 you comment, "I'm going to buy a Longivity".Less than 30 days later, you're on here asking how to weld a difficult setup (in aluminum no less) with no warping.Did we miss a few steps in the "learning to tig weld" process?Posters can elect to answer your "basic tig questions", all of which are covered in any decent tig instruction manual (and most owners manuals) until the cows come home. You still won't be a tig welder.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:To the people in here that offered advice. Thanks. To anyone else.If you dont like the way i spend my money. Start a new thread, You dont have to fill up mine with your inane comments. |
