Reply:Congrats on the new tool.  I'm sure you will get a lot of satisfaction along with some frustration too.  Enjoy and show us some pics of what it will do,BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Frustration? How? I mean aside from my natural inability to TIG? I really like the machine. It runs so nice.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:I have a p185 and really like it altho it seems a little smarter than I am when it comes to tig, but I am sneeking up on it slowly.

Reply:Ok, here is the backstory.....My buddy bought it new and asked me to come over and do his stainless steel repairs for him. I would go to Phoenix, do the job and come back to Yuma. And he never once used it that I know of. As a matter of fact, when I picked it up, he told my son that I was the only one that ever used it. That's why it looks new. It was just sitting in his garage. Mark, The ReadyPak comes the way you see it, with the optional black cart under the unit. In that optional cart is the water cooler. The water cooled torch is on the side of the unit. I already had a water cooler and a torch. So now I have two of each. I actually like my CK tig torch better and it has a gas lens and pyrex cup. I may be selling my water cooler now that I don't need an extra.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Hang on to it.  Once I get rich & famous (rather than poor & notorious) I may have a use for it.  Although that might take a year.Very nice to have something you are already familiar with.  What's the input power requirement?  50A or 90A?MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:104Amps without Power Factor Correction at 275amps and 40% Duty Cycle.80amps with Power Factor Correction at 275 amps and 40% Duty Cycle.Lucky me, my buddy ordered it WITH!But at FULL throttle, which is 340amps output in both AC and DC,....It's more. I am looking in the manual now for the specs...Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain

Reply:Joker & I were exchanging texts today about duty cycle.  He looked up the max output of this machine............... 340 AMPS!!!!  Holy Hot Fingers Batman, that's a lot of amps.We all know most duty cycles are based on a 10 minute cycle.  40% duty cycle = 4 minutes welding, 6 minutes cooling.  Now remember this is continuous welding, not intermittent beads.Anyway, he said he had to have a Chemical Engineer calculate the duty cycle at full throttle.  Duty cycle allows welding for 2.6 minutes, cooling for 7.4 minutes.  I did some searching online & Miller Welding has the actual calculation.  The manual doesn't list the actual duty cycle at full throttle, only 40% at 275 amps.  And we all know 375 amp output is definitely NOT 40% duty cycle. Here's the link I found: Welder Duty Cycle CalculationMaybe others smarter than me know this, but this is the text that goes with the link.  by Tom Doody in Oct 2004Yes, the duty cycle increases as the welding current is decreased.  Ifyou looked at the duty cycle chart referenced by acrobat-ants("... info from the miller websitehttp://www.millerwelds.com/om/o116j_mil.pdf> look on page 5 thru 7 it talks about duty cycle."you might notice that the graph uses a logarithmic axis rather than alinear axis.  There is a formula for calculating the duty cycle at anyoperating current if the factory duty cycle rating is known (which isalmost always listed by the manufacturer).  The formula is as follows:A = (S/I)^2 x Rwhere:A = adjusted duty cycle at desired welding current (%)S = specified current at rated duty cycle (amps)I = desired (or actual) welding current (amps)R = factory rated duty cycle (i.e. at current S) (%)note that the ^2 stands for squared(I am using non-conventional symbols here because I think it is easierthan using subscripts for this text)For the example machine which is rated at 20% duty cycle at 225 amps, the question is what is calculated duty cycle at 150 amps.  Using theabove formula, the numbers work out as follows:A = (225/150)^2 x 20A = (1.5)^2 x 20A = 2.25 x 20A = 45 %Note that this results matches the graph figure from the abovereferenced miller manual. The advantage of knowing or using this formula is that you only needto know the factory duty cycle rating to calculate what you want (i.e.you don't need to find the manufacturer's manual and hope they have aduty cycle chart). For a second example, suppose that you want to use your machine at acurrent higher than the current listed for the duty cycle?  Supposeyour machine is rated at 60% duty cycle at 150 amps but you want touse it at 175 amps?  Using the formula, this works out as follows:A = (150/175)^2 x 60A = (0.857)^2 x 60A = 0.735 x 60A = 44%Hope this helps
Reply:In other words, this much heat could glue some pretty thick aluminum together.  Or burn your fingers off trying!I posted this to help others that don't know what the calculation is & newbies like me trying to figure out how long they can weld at a given amp setting.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Thanks Mark.I got to packing up for my trip to Phoenix again tomorrow and didn't get a chance to post up what I wanted to. It's cool that you found that information. One thing I would like to add is that I called a few people in the business and none of them could tell me this equation. That boggles my mind. I mean, I am sure most guys just weld and don't think about the numbers like that, but when someone asks for it, shouldn't it be available?Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
