Is it possible to make a bbq grill out of 3/8 steel round bar? I have been looking at other grills and they seem to be coated with something. Some porcelain others are cast... I lent my grill to a friend and when there bbq finally bit it, they threw out my grill with it. (I have two bbq's) The size and type of grill I need has been discontinued by the manufacturer.
Reply:No reason it wouldn't work great and hold heat. It should outlive the grill.
Reply:yes, it works fine, just tie it together good cause it will tend to warp wierd if u dont, and u dont want those hotdogs falling through!
Reply:yes and expanded metal too. get the mill scale off during fab, after the first cookin the grease will keep the rust away..............
Reply:Great thanks for the helpful reply's! The rust was my main concern but as weldbead said, the grease will keep the rust way, I have miles of it at work so I think I may weld a couple up!
Reply:Would 3/8 rebar work for a grill?
Reply:i'd hesitate only because rebar is made from lots of different things and the chance that something bad would contaminate some food exists...i suppose you could preheat it good with a torch and then you'd have gotten it hotter than a cooking fire would...
Reply:I made a replacement grill out of 1/4" rod. My wife runs the grill so hot it burns all the grease off and it's rusting and flaking off pieces. Next time I think I'll try to find some stainless. If you use expanded metal be sure to orient it in the correct direction so your spatula doesn't hang up when you're flippin' burgers. It should slide across one direction better than the other.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
