how long will a 40cf acly and 80 oxygen last me during "cutting mode" before i have to fill them again?
Reply:A lot of this will depend on how thick the steel is that you plan to cut. Here's a chart that lists some good info.http://www.hoopersupply.com/tipchart.htmlYour biggest issue will be your small acet cyl size. You should not exceed the 1/7th rule. That means you should not pull more than 5.7cf of gas from the cyl per hour. (40cf/7) From the chart you will see that 1/4" is about the max you can cut (6cf per hr) continuously. You can cut a bit larger for short periods and then let the cyl recover. At 6cf / hr you would have almost 7hrs of cut time in theory. Running full out on a cyl this small is pushing it for me even if the chart says you are good. Even with my 75cf I usually limit the length of time I cut cont. to 10min or so then let it sit. The newer suggestions of 1/10th per hour are even more limiting with a small cyl. Using that suggestion, my 75 cf acet cyl is barely adequate for 1/4".What you will find is that your O2 will go very fast compared to acet. On that same 1/4" cut you will eat 35 cf of gas an hour. That means your little 80cf will go in just over 2 1/4hrs. Thats about 3 times the O2 used vs Acet. for those sized cylinders..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I have a 75cf Acet and a 100cf O2 that I started with. When I cut I use the 280cf O2 instead of the 100cf. The cost to refill the 280 is $5 more than what it costs me to refill the 100, and usually I need to get both the acet and O2 filled at about the same time. If I need to use the rosebud, I just get a larger acet cyl from the LWS. I forget the size right now as it's been awhile since I had to do a lot of heating and beating. All in all I don't usually need to do that much cutting with the torch. I have other ways to cut if need be, chopsaw, portaband, floor mounted band saw, grinder, 14" demo saw, plasma... The torch gets used to cut loose rusty parts like the Ubolts and rivits when I did springs on Sat. or if I need to cut medium to heavy plate. Even burning off the parts for the springs I doubt I ran the torch more than 20 minutes tops all together..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
