Hey guys,Hopefully by the end of summer I am going to start on a flatbed for my old 1 ton truck. I will be putting a G/N hitch, winch/poles, adding air bag over loads to the rear suspension, under body tool box. Adding some square tube reciever sockets into the bed for removeable vice mounts and other equipment.Looking for other ideas that you have added to your truck to make it user/work friendly. I am also interested in seeing how you framed your bed. Thanks for any pics and ideas.
Reply:Yes - I got the point - 1 Tons - I will sit back and eat popcorn.  lolYou might want to re-think the air bag overloads for poles - You want it nice and solid - I hear a lot of good things about Timbren solid overloads.Sorry - Back to the popcorn.Later,Jason

Reply:I search and found threads on welding rig beds, which is not what I am going to build. Was looking more for flatbed ideas.I have seen alot of different flatbeds with cool stuff added here and there. Was seeing if any more ideas would come up on this thread that I had not seen before. If its going to be a "use search first" etc flame thread, then it just needs to be deleted. The air bags are mainly for the 40' g/n trialer I will be pulling, not for the poles specifically.Last edited by saltbranch; 07-03-2011 at 01:43 AM.
Reply:So you are looking for a work truck without a welding setup?  You want the ability to pull a gooseneck trailer? I guess I would cast a vote in favor of extra leaf springs and timbrens.  I am a fan of keep it simple.  I just removed a flatbad that was on my 79 Ford and moved it to a newer Ford.  What year and make is the 1 ton?
Reply:Its an 89' f350 and will be used for hauling equipment/material, ranch/fence building work. Will be doing some welding in the field with a small portable unit carried when needed. Pulling a G/N
Reply:The company I used to work for built flat beds for 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton pickups. Couple of the most popular features was stake pockets for adding side boards, a piece of flat bar along the edge as a rub rail/tie down points, and cargo/work lights mounted into the headache rack. The shop I work in now has one of the beds on one of our shop trucks. If I think of it Tuesday I will snap a couple pics for ya.

Reply:Expat - that's pretty sharp looking as is.  What changes would you do next time?"These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Legal requirements do not exist.Technical issues subject to change."_________________________________________Lincoln MIG PAK 180Lincoln AC-225
Reply:Many commercial wreckers use Timbrens. They can't leak. The old school wrecker trick of moving the overload contact "tabs" on the frame downward (or welding a piece of heavy box tubing to them) so they always touch the overload spring works well too.

Reply:for user friendly I love the ol wheelchair lifts, http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...heelchair+lift  but they are functional and not pretty which is probably and issue for many.  I would load and unload my old ranger 8 all the time with the one I had mounted on the side of the flatbed behind the cabTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
