I am doing a frame off refurbishment of a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2wd RCLB truck I picked up real cheap. The frame and body are in decent shape. While I have the truck all apart I am going to have the frame blasted down to bare metal.Has anyone done a full box on one of these frames?I want this to be my driver/parts runner/tow vehicle.Planning on essentially having a new truck when I am done.Any thoughts or advice?
Reply:Boxing a frame is no big deal, use card board and make patterns. Match the steel, if frame in 8th inch you will want the plate the same. Any place you have bolts I suggest you weld in a piece of tube stock to prevent the frame from crushing.
Reply:Being an '02, most of this frame should already be boxed, except for the last couple of feet on the rear. The weak point on these are around the tubular crossmembers over the fuel tank, usually caused by dirt/mud..
