looking for advise on how to better brace the tongue on this trailer, the tongue is 1.5x3 channel thats 3/16ths thick, the rest of the trailer is 2x3x 3/16th angle, max weight i will haul is around 1500 pounds, please excuse my not to scale crappy ms paint drawing, Attached Images
Reply:My trailer is built basically the same way but i have a added axle behind the original axle as it was tearing the tires up , it to has 3'' channel it is rated at 3500 lbs gvw , currently it weights 3620 , i have added a 2x2x1/4 square tube frame around the underneath side and new square tube stringers this makes my frame basically 5", what i have planned to do is go with 4x2x.250, but since it has yet to bend or spring i haven't really worried about it. Currently i have drivin around for over 10,000 miles like this , my trailer is a 6x10 enclosed, u will find the 3" channel will be okay what will happen is the axle will flex to the point ure tires start wearing weird when its overloaded to the hilt. I am just gonna go buy a 16' trailer so im not to terribly worried about switching something that works.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:this is a 6x10 trailer, i guess my main concern is how the tongue is only attached to the cross braces and not to the sides of the trailer frame. would something like this help? also should i add anything to the tongue between the coupler and start of the trailer frame, thanks. Reply:Seems to me your hitch is kinda short though from the picture.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:it is short and you description makes perfect since, if it went to the sides of the frame id be ok with it, dont really want to redo it all just thought adding some bracing would help, the only thing it hauls is a couple atvs, i was putting new wood decking in it and thought now is the time to fix it up. |
