Is this bad?

Hey you may remember me from last month when I was asking about a defect in my bmx bike frame.Well I got a replacement but I noticed these similar welds.But they are not deep or anything. Just kind of on surface

Reply:The pict sucks. If you want feed back, a clear pict would really help. Also I wouldn't expect too many people are up super late at night. Reply:Ill post a better pic when I get home.It seems that almost all bmx bikes have a similar looking pinholes in the welding?Can any of you guys show me what a "acceptable" and "bad" pinholes look like, so I can compare them?

Reply:I was just kidding you! Those pin holes happen to the best of welders, I'm surprised it wasn't taken care of before leaving the factory. Most likely not an issue, but it is a simple fix, take a die grinder, feather out the pin hole and re-weld. Reply:See the light in the top of the photo, move the light onto the area you are tying to take the picture of, or block it, the camera is adjusting to the back light and that is causing the object you are trying to photo to be to dark, not lit.

Reply:Looks typical for a walmart bike. I hope these aren't high end big price tag bikes? The pinhole probably won't cause any problems ever, just dab some paint in the hole so it doesn't rust out if its not aluminum or something.

Reply:Relax.  You're bike is fine.  If it's not built by Moss Specialties (if they still do contract fab) or FBM (if they still build their own frames), it came out of the giant factory in Taiwan that makes 99% of the BMX bikes in America.Syncrowave 300Maxtron 450, S-52E, 30A

Reply:Look your asking welders to show you an example of a "bad" pin hole.....there all bad a pinhole means something went wrong during the welding process what yours looks like is the robot that welded it  was programmed improperly and it turned the gas off before terminating the weld instead of continuing the flow untill just after termination some one probably put a dwell perameter in wrong your bike will be fine  you could run it over with a truck and all the tubing would bend before it broke ......its fine ride the pi$$ out of it1979 sa 200victor 100several bfh's several pitbulls (for holding down the floor)Originally Posted by BmxriderI don't think my frame has a "crater crack".

Reply:Send it back, maybe they'll get it right next time...And make sure to tell them to QC the next one or it's coming back too.Why does the seat tube have a flat spot in it?Being on the ST it's nowhere near as dangerous as the first one, but I wouldn't keep it.Go look at a GT, Specialized, or even a crappy TREK.  None of them will have holes in the welds...And sadly enough they all most likely came from the same factory in Taiwan. Reply:First of all... I've been riding BMX for over 15 years now, and that is something I've seen on plenty of bmx bikes. Secondly, that is terrible for a company as widely known as kink to be sending out with there name on it. I don't know who welds the parts for kink, but that is embarrassing to welders. A REAL bmx frame has beautiful welds on it, and many are welded in USA by bmxers themselves.     BUT, this "pinhole" will not cause you issues with the bike falling apart. If you have the skill, sure grind it out and weld it up, but I would just leave it be and forget about it. That weld almost looks like a mig weld its so bad. Kink used to be a quality company, as did many others. For bmx, and I mean hardcore bmx, not just jumping curbs, you should really stick to rider owned made in usa companies. I grew up in southern California, so i'm partial to S&M, but I've been riding t-1 frames for years now with s&m parts. If you have the choice and the money, send the frame back and purchase something else.  Otherwise, forget it. that's the least of your worries. Reply:Sorry, just read that you live in Australia. Just ride it, you'll be fine. For a point of reference... if you remember back in the late 90's early 2000's, I had a few friends that rode Dirt Bros frames (Vic Murphy from San Diego). They all had bad welds, some parts were twisted, one had a missing weld on one seam... and none of them ever broke. They took some nasty falls and bounces off rails, dirt jumps, you name it. Reply:Its a shame you're in Australia, I wouldnt be happy with a frame like that here in the states, I had a sunday wave frame that looked beautiful and i NEVER had an issue with it, but Ive repaired one bike frame that broke right there at the head tube and it scared me how thin it was.
