I've got some SS 24 gauge metal that has a plastic protecter film on it, this has been sitting for 8+ years and wont seem to come off without tearing up the SS finish. Does anyone have any ideals what would remove this film. Before its said, it wont peel off. hahaJobSmart MIG125Lincoln AC225-SLincoln Pro-Mig 175Dewalt GrindersRidgid ChopsawIR Garage Mate CompressorAny thing worth doing, is worth doing right.
Reply:did you try a heat gun to loosen its grip and mabe a plastic scraper not to damage the steeel, its not going tobe easy or fast with any methodOf all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:The best thing I ever used for removing stubborn films (like decals and stickers) is a gum rubber wheel used in an appropriate rotary tool.Snap-On Tools has one of the "appropriate tools" they call a Crud Thug. There maybe other tools out there that do the same thing. I have seen the gum rubber wheels sold at Harbor Freight so they might also have their own version of the Crud Thug. The Snap-On tool is a bit pricey but is of good quality. We have had one in the shop where I work for about 17 years now and it's still working.I won't guarantee that using the gum rubber wheel won't leave some kind of tell tale marking on the SS surface because if that plastic film has been collecting dust for years..........some of the dust is likely abrasive particles and those would be the scratchy factor here. The gum rubber wheels WILL remove decals and such from painted surfaces without damaging the paint. We use the Crud Thug to remove faded or damaged logo decals and expired permit stickers from our trucks.

Reply:X3 on heat gun. If you can heat the back side it will come off better. E/S
Reply:I found a yellow can in my basment that is called goof off. It has to be the best stipper that I have ever seen. I have spent way too much time trying to get rid of the plastic protective cover, in a couple of minute it was gone. A very great find for me.JobSmart MIG125Lincoln AC225-SLincoln Pro-Mig 175Dewalt GrindersRidgid ChopsawIR Garage Mate CompressorAny thing worth doing, is worth doing right. |
