Reply:You take a regular wire wheel to that table it will rust 19 gold, use a flap disk or grinding wheel you might contaminate more of the surface, resulting in more rust... Post a picture, or only clean the affected area like Wendell suggestedUA local 32Team weld-coolTeam miller elite tack upMiller pro-staff

Reply:Bar Keeper's Friend!Either get the powder (that's cheaper), or the paste.  Mix the powder with a sprinkle of water to make a thick paste, and rub in with a scubbie sponge (NOT scotchbrite, which is abrasive and will ruin the brushed surface), until the rust disappears. If you have a huge surface to work on, I guess you could use an electric car buffer if you had one, or something like that to save you from the elbow breaking part of the work.

Reply:Barkeeper's Friend contains Oxalic acid, which is also used in wood bleach (deck cleaner) and to remove rust stains from concrete.  Many foods like Spinach contain Oxalic acid.  It can be handy."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:Vinegar is a weak acid. I used it to clean a cutting torch once. It cleaned up real good but didnt fix the Victor cutting attachment.Bar helper sounds good but does it have an abraisive in it
Reply:Another vote for barkeep's friend. It is a mild abrasive and contains oxalic acid to help break down the contaminant. Make a paste, cover the rust spots, let sit for a bit, then rub off with a washcloth. No need for an abrasive pad, since the barkeep's is the abrasive. This will work for most kinds of rust that one would find on a stainless catering table.

Google it for more info. The smaller the scratches are (in other words, the less aggressive the abrasive you use), the better off you'll be.

Reply:000 SS steel wool. Little soapy water and rub the stains away.
Reply:000 stainless steel wool is ok on stainless, but it is hard to find.  Stainless pot scrubbers will scuff up the surface, but if you don't care about looks, they're ok too.Bronze wool is safer on more delicate items. But I stand by Bar Keeper's Friend used with any of the above forms of application.  Rubbing rust off of 304 stainless with just soapy water will not get rid of the rust.  It stays active in microscopic specks.  Even if the rust spots appear to be gone, they always seem to reappear soon after.  That's why rust spots on your flatware come back after you've scrubbed them off, and put them in the dishwasher.Use BKF, and they generally don't come back.  Other acids may work well for this purpose too, but I haven't found anything better yet that isn't highly dangerous.
Reply:I saw this thread and figured I would throw in this. While this wouldn't be good for a table top, if have smaller stuff that can be soaked, this is the stuff to use:http://www.evaporust.com/evaporust.h...FRCf4AodSAUADgI bought it at Autozone, and this stuff kicks a$$!  I just used it to clean out all the rust from a Harley gas tank. The inside of the tank is now spotless. The only thing is the instructions say to let the parts soak for 1-2 hours. I had to let them sit over night, but every last bit of rust was gone. Just something to keep in mind if something like this is needed in the future.kidtigger24  They think I’m crazy, but I know better. It is not I who am crazy. It is I who am MAD!
Reply:Evaporust is pretty good.  Better for a soak than as a surface treatment, but it will work in that manner for light rust.  Oxalic acid is similar - better for light rust.  Some folks have done the electrolytic derusting process using a cloth pad, sheet metal electrode and a battery charger.  Works fine for things like a welding table top or a cast iron table saw. Similar setups are used for removing heat tint on stainless steel weldments with a smaller pad."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:Thanx for all the reactions!I was using calcium-remover for some calcium on this ss table (sorry for loussy translation) and with the help of a sponge the rust was gone within 5 minutes!Thanx
Reply:Sounds like CLR, or Lime Away, or equivalent.  That is phosphoric acid based, and should work very nicely.
