Lincoln-Harris Porta-Torch OA Rig at Lowes

I don't know if it was just at our local Lowes, which is getting ready to re-rack the store, but on 9/17 I picked up two Lincoln-Harris Porta-Torch outfits (O2 and acetylene tanks, hoses, regulators, welding and cutting torches, tips, goggles, sparker, air-fuel adapter, and carrying case) for $152.60 each.  They go for $299 at Home Depot.  Might want to call your local Lowes store if you are in market for this unit.  (Yes, I know they have limited power and uses, but I already have the full size rig.)TeddCoHTP Microcut 400 & Invertig 160DC  Smith Dual Guard MD-510 OA Rig  Lincoln SP135+  Hobart Stickmate LX 235/160
Reply:Having done major store remodels for a larger home improvement chain for a few years, it's not at all uncommon for them to agressively move slow inventory, displays or discontinued merchandise to make room for the reset. We usually needed to clear at least 1/3 to 1/2 or the store for a major refit. I never could understand why even when they were closing a store and shifting to a newer store why they didn't transfer more inventory to other local stores rather than slash prices drastically to make the space needed.Also the stores often have a great deal of discression as to how they can dispose of discontinued merchandise or products that have been chosen to be removed from that particular location because they are slow movers and for space considerations. It really all depends on the store manager. I know one of my local Lowes that agressively marks down such items. Where at other stores the stuff will sit on the shelf for months marked down $10 or $15  from retail, this store will pull the merchandise and mark it all down 50%+ and blow it out. I've picked up some real deals on clearance items there and make a point to wander by where they usually put out the carts of clearance merchandise looking for "deals"..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Good deal.I saw the 'old' outfit and the 'new' outfit at a local Lowes.  Slightly different model, so they were probably clearing out the 'old' model.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
