I have had this machine for several months (bought new) and just started to get a weird problem with the digital readout display. While welding (TIG), the digital display sometimes goes to "0.0" and will no longer change until the machine is powered down and then restarted. The display will then return to normal. Everything else appears to operate normally after this happens, but you cannot set the weld current or read any of the parameters until you go through the "reset." I talked to the technical people at Thermadyne, and they said they have never experienced this problem before.Anyone besides me experiencing this, and if so, any ideas as to what is going on?
Reply:Gerry,Don't let them give you the old "I never seen this problem before" BS.There's a problem there. You need to get it looked at right now while still under warranty.Could be something as simple as a loose connection, but if it's a "board problem", then those things are not cheap on the inverters.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:can you not delete your own post? or am i just blind.anyways, what I had said was wrong, i had not read your post fully. Yeah, get it looked at while its under warrenty. I've had a ta185 for 3 or 4 years now and its never done anything like that.Last edited by mulva; 08-25-2010 at 09:54 PM.
Reply:My TA doesn't do that either. Take it in for warranty repair.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Thanks for the inputs. I contacted the people where I purchased the unit, and they are going to see if they can get me a loaner while they look at this one. I'll keep you posted as to the findings / results. I should know something next week.
Reply:i've noticed if you push the red ampsetting knob in, it will read 0. if you push it again it will read the current you've set. this may be different than what you are experiencing..

Reply:From an over-the-phone description of the problem by my supplier, it seems that the Thermadyne people think it is the display, so they are sending a new display for my supplier to install. I consider this "Round 1," but at least I am now on record with a problem under the warranty. I hope they are right. I will keep everyone posted as to the outcome.
Reply:Quick update: They replaced the display board while I waited (LWS) A couple of weeks ago, and I have had no reoccurrences of the display going to zero since. Hopefully that's the end of it.
Reply:Great, glad they took care of it and yeah, hopefully no recurring problems.
