Rcently picked up a 30a spoolgun and the WC-24 control module. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the spoolgun dialed in. For starters I plan to use it on 14g to .250" thicknesses. I ran some test beads when I first got it to try it out, the results were less than admirable. Based on the prior board searches(here and other places) I had the flow at the recommended 20 cfm of Ar, for the initial trial I set the wire speed at about 4.5 which translated to about 347 IPM on the 251; the test piece was .187". I can see you need to move a bit quicker than with regular mig which I can adjust easily with some practice, but I was surprised at the amount of black discoloring on the weld. No pics of the beads atm, I'll try to get some up later. What would be an analysis for the black coloring? I had brushed it with a stainless brush as well. I was wondering if there is a gas lens or something of that nature that would fit in the barrel to create a more adequate gas coverage. Any info would help or suggestions with the settings, I like Miller equipment but I loathe their manuals. I'm going to hook it up to the XMT later this week and see how that goes, maybe try the pulser as well.On a side note to the moderators, any possible way to get another child forum pertaining to settings for processes i.e. set up for pulsing tig on SS? There are lots of books out there and the calculators, but having the data centralized would help at least with a starting point. It might help weed out a lot of the "how do I?" threads as well. I think with the base of real world experience here, it could be brought together nicely, unless some still have the "job security" frame of mind about giving up secrets. I'd be willing to compile it into an excel spreadsheet or maybe an html table if we had enough data. |
