I just finished up all my projects for tig class. We use basic scratch start on everything except aluminum, but still, no foot petal. and we use a standard #7 cup and 3/32 tungsten as well. I have a machine at home but dont have much as far as consumables, just what I use at school. Does anyone sell a "starter kit"? something with some other cup sizes as well as maybe some gas lenses? Im wanting to do some experimenting with other setups but I dont want to just go and buy random stuff.
Reply:I honestly don't even know the number of the cup any more. But I do ALL my welding with a gas lens and the "strait" cup, 3/32" tung is the most common as well in my tool box.
Reply:I think you are looking for a Tig Accessory Kit (AK-1, AK-2 or AK-3 normally).  Depends what torch you have at home.Find them on ebay pretty cheap.http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...ry+kit&_sop=15Dave J.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 04-10-2013 at 09:57 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:I know I dont have to have one, That is what I learned on was just a number 7. Im just wanting to have a decent start on torch parts, I start pipe welding in a few weeks, my teacher tells us to run a 7 still, but some guys who have been in the class were telling my they liked running a larger lens on the pipe as opposed to a standard cup? Im not looking for "the magic setup" just want to be well equipped i guess.

Reply:Go to weldingcity.com... I buy most of my torch parts from them... they are the cheapest place I have found, you can buy in small quantity and their parts are excellent... I have not had any problems with anything... Like VPT I, mainly use a #8 gas lens with my torch's, my # 9/20 and my #17 flex head with a medium gas lens. Unless you plan on welding  titanium the #8 cup with a gas lens will be all you will ever need...also buy them in 1/8''  because you can use smaller size collets..(you don't need a gas lens for each size tungsten) although all you really need is 3/32".... it really depends on what you intend to weldLincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st
