I've been looking for a welding job while i'm in school but everyone around here wants 3+ years experience so I found a job the other day for an entry level machinist wanted (with little or no experience okay) and I thought I would apply so I got a call today and went to interview, he asked me to call him at 5:30 to let me know if I got the job or not and I got the job. It consists of operating mill, bandsaw and pretty much everything but a lathe from what he told me, starting pay is $10/hr. Does anyone have any advice on the new job?"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. Reply:Listen to me;Be careful.  You're responsible for your own safety.  No one else. If you keep that first most in your mind, you have a great oportunity to learn a trade.Syncrowave 300Maxtron 450, S-52E, 30A
Reply:I don't understand why you did not applied for those shops that requiere about 3 years experience ...? What about this situation, you'll be laid off in 2 years from this machine shop, so at this point you have 2 years experience as a apprentice machinist, then you look arround for some jobs opportunity and everyone is asking for 5 years experience ...What you'll be doing in this situation ? Applied without the required years of experiencd or walk away ?Yoy should apply in job that YOU want to work and be honnest to tell them what you can do, what you can do and you want to learn the trade.Samething about job that required a qualification card, if you don't have the qualification but you know how to weld with this type of welding, they can hired you and make you pass the tst after.Calculator > Bevel Square
Reply:Since you asked....Skills anyone can learn. Attitude you bring with you. Be respectful, listen and learn.A reputation is hard to build and easy to lose. And like wendell said, be safe.Best wishes.
Reply:I graduated welding school in 1982. Applied for several jobs and found out experience means EVERYTHING. I ended up entry level at $4.75 / hr. At the time I summized my welding school diploma may have been equivalent to 1 year experience or even less. Learn all you can, all types of machines and welding, means EVERYTHING. Thirty years later, I'm not welding anymore.Good Luck!

Reply:Well I love this job!! We have a welder who might be retiring soon so i'm next in line for that position, my boss loves the fact that i'm in school for welding and has already mentioned that he would pay for my metallurgy and blueprinting classes because the current welder isn't " certified " but has been welding off and on for 30 years he's a great welder and he does MIG like TIG but he's never heard of MIG like TIG, that's just the way he was taught to weld. I'm going to take some pictures tomorrow and post them. Well time to go to class now, just thought I would post this."Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. Reply:Be sure that they let you weld something from time to time (doesn't matter what, broken chairs, or anything) so that you can then have x years machinging & welding experience.

Reply:Originally Posted by Jeromy_EYea i've already talked to them about it, actually tomorrow i'm going to be doing a couple of cast iron parts because the welder that's there doesn't know how to do it and i've done probably about 5 or so pieces of cast iron and they're all still holding up well without any cracks.
