I was looking at jobs at conedison they want there welders to have API1104 and B31.1 certification. I know one is AWS and the other is ASME. The school i plan on attending offers ASME and AWS certs but i want to know more in depth about them.
Reply:1104 is a pipeline code allows up to an inch of IP two inches of slag etc b31.3 is a much more strict code no slag no ip etc. I'm not sure on b31.1
Reply:API 1104 test consist of 6" sch 40 6g with a second test being a branch on pipe connection. The welder shall layout, cut, fit, and weld the branch on pipe connection on min 6' sch 40 pipe. A full-size hole shall be cut in the run then the pipe to be horizontal with branch in vert downward position. In passing test you are qualified to weld 6" sch 40 pipe and smaller. When both weld test are done on pipe equal to or greater then 12.75", then welder has unlimited qualification. |
