hello all, i have takin on a project that i need to be certified with a equivalent to level B-Stringent as defined in ISO 5817:2003. print says that i need to be qualified to ISO AWS, or CWB standards. i have not been certified before and have a couple questions about my coupons that i have been practicing on. material. 304 SS plateposition. flat bench T fillet weldprocess. MIGwire. 308L .035welder. Miller XMT 350 CC/CV with 22A 24V wire feed set at 23V wire speed at 5gas. 75% argon 25% CO2 25 CFH the welding seems to be going good but when i cut the weld into strips i can see all .250 of the material un penetrated. there is a dot at the root of my weld where the materials are not fused. what can i do to help penetrate the root? Reply:If you need to be certified do you have a WPS to be certified to? Do you know your using the wrong gas? There are some steps that your may need help from a CWI if this is critical/contract work. You should get your hands on a WPS or a SWPS that way you know what the essential variables that need to be used then tackle passing your certification.
Reply:Thank you for your reply. What gas should I be using?
Reply:Go the the Miller website and look under resources and you'll find a weld calculator. Just type in your info but you still need to iron out the other details.
Reply:if you do not already have a qualified PQR you are going to need to Get a WPS and qualify to that said WPS is all of it in the 1F position or are there out of position welds on the part If there are out of position welds you need to qualify to those positions for example a 3f ticket will cover 1f and 2f for stainless hot glue gun welding you need a tri mix your gas supplier can get you set up on gas the tri mix has argon c02 and heliumgood luck sounds like you have alot to sort out before even taking this job on also get ready to pay around 250-350$ for the certification for the welding part and unless you can find a prequalified wps from the AWS which you should be able too but not seeing the print and joint configuration i can not really say you are going to have to pay someone aka a welding engineer to write it up then to qualify one if thats the caseyou are also going to need to know what code for aws applies if you are using aws procedures Customer should be able to supply this stuff possiblyalso need to know if any NDT needs to be done (most likely) or DT on the parts after weld outLast edited by WeldorWes; 04-18-2013 at 08:25 PM.Miller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
Reply:Thank you. I got a bottle of try mix today of 90% helium 7.5 argon and 2.5 co2, also spoke with a welding engineer from euro weld and yes I was way off when I first started all of this. I set my machine to 26 V and not sure amps, gauge wasn't working. Wire speed was about 5.25 and gas was 10cfh. I did a fusion pass and capped it with two more passes. I did some tests and got about .150 of penetration at root and before I was getting zero. I did the weld test and sent it to the test facility. |
