Just wanted to post that I am starting a night class this coming Tuesday at a local BOCES here in upstate NY. It's called Welding II. it's aimed towards the welder with some experience who wants to enhance their skills with the process and other knowledge of the processes. The course covers stick,MIG and TIG. I'm pretty pumped about it.     Also I went to Modern Welding School in Schenectady,NY for a financial Aid interview and found out that I'm going to be completely covered to attend their welding program which covers stick, mig tig, and Oxy/acetylene. Needless to say I'm pretty pumped about that too but I have to wait until September :/Eastwood TIG 200NAPA 83-315 MIG

Reply:Excellent! Getting harder and harder to fins schools for trades and even harder to find people that want to go to trade school now days. Congratulations! The things about school though is they can show you whats right, tell you how to do it, and tell you what your doing wrong but in the end it all comes down to practice time to get it right. I know many people that think they are going to go to school and come out pros, it doesn't happen like that. We'll be watching for pictures and progress reports!
Reply:Emirlbison are you going to be a commuter or living there? I live by Poughkeepsie and plan on living in Schenectady while going to school. I haveent had anyluck find a place and was wondering if you had any leads?

When I went there for my interview they gave me a folder with information on housing for non local students. Did you get the same? I'm sure they will help you in anyway they can everyone i met seemed pretty nice. Are you starting in September as well?
Reply:Good Luck to you guys. I'm 54 and have a good career but I really want to continue learning. A friend of mine is now retired and was a Union welder for the last 35 years. He is teaching me now. I feel very fortunate as he now does a lot of local marine jobs ( aluminum and Brass props) as well as a lot of stainless for local restaurants. I can see this will take a long time but it's really satisfying. Don't know if I'll ever make a nickel doing this but I thoroughly enjoy learning.
