DIY Foot Pedal

Reply:Now that you have designed them ( that's the hard part) they look fairly simple. Good job. Someone who knows what he's doing always makes it look simple. The mechanical part is pretty straight forward, but what size, value, pot is used and would it be the same for a tig pedal and a motor speed pedal?

Reply:For the value of the pots, the original circuits determine that.  For the motor control the PWM I buy has a value like 10 to 20 k ohms. And I replace that with the same value with a longer shaft.  My tig welder had about a 50 k pot and a older tig had a 5 k pot.  So it’s not a one size fits all. If the original pot is not marked remove it from the circuit and check it with a meter.Papa I agree with the filter caps but since the original foot controller on my tig did not have them they may have been internal to the machine. The foot pedal cable would act as a big antenna so they must be in the circuit somewhere.  have funTom
