I have a Miller 225 cracker box that has a TIG set up with it. I used a set up like that years ago. Does any of you Old Timers out there know where I can get one of those high freq. boxes. It hooks up in line from the machine then the TIG plugs into it.
Reply:Shop, Trade, Sell Forum section, craigslist, eBay, local newspaper ads, . . .AC only machine or the AC/DC version? If AC/DC and you're not doing aluminum, just scratch start.Last edited by duaneb55; 04-29-2013 at 03:44 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I's AC DC. But the freq. is not high enough to run TIG right? TIG is not built into the machine. I need a high freq. attachment, am I wrong?
Reply:You don't need hi freq to start if you are welding steel. As was said, Just scratch start. Lots of posts and instruction on it. Check out welding tips and tricks.com for some video.
Reply:I want to weld alumlnum. Thats why I need the high freq.

Reply:Agreed, skip the HF box and just get yourself a dedicated tig machine if you are serious about wanting to tig alum. The HF box will keep an AC arc running, but it won't give you the ability to run a remote like a pedal. Trying to tig alum without a pedal to back down your amps will be an effort in frustration.Steel on the other hand can easily be done without either the HF box or a remote.I see nice older used industrial AC/DC tig's all the time for $500-900. You will end up with way more machine than what you'd get if you simply tacked an HF box to a standard AC/DC stick machine..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I started with a high freq box and learned a lot that way...What I learned is I would have been welding better, faster if I had skipped it and bought a tig The old AIRCO dinosaur I got cost me $250 and is super nice - monster power (5 amps to 460 amps) and good control Nice thing is the awesome duty cycle! Was welding at 200 amps on aluminum and did not even have to think about the welder getting hot. I'm not a patient man - low duty cycle sucks for me!! Welds to 200 amps at 100% duty cyle and stick welds great.By the way, the HF box cost me $250 as well....Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
