"Can you just weld over it?""Are you nuts?" was my reply..Oh man here we go again..2500 LB half full of water roller with a mess to fix..I get all the fun jobs..The head is bolted to the face on both sides and it was leaking around the bolted area..(Nice work on the sealant guys)....Then someone using I have no idea what decides to weld the outside shut and that will be that.UmmmmmmmmSorry...NO that's not gonna happen..Not the way you did it..And by the way if you look close..they welded the allen bolts in also..So now I get the great pleasure of cutting out whatever it is and replacing it with 70S-2..On with the pics..Pretty self explanatory..Cracks..Pulled welds... Just a nightmare...I just got this started as far as turning the sh!t off but we will get back to this in the A.M.I can't wait....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I havent been here very long....but I think deep down inside you love it :-P
Reply:Zap, I believe around your area your regarded as the welder who can fix anything from the crack of dawn to a broken heart. I mean that as a compliment, I can just imagine the look on your face when he asked" Can't you just weld over it?"                                    MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:"Can you just weld over it?"Sure I can, as long as you don't care that it doesn't hold up any better than this first attempt. BUT THEN IF YOU WANT IT DONE RIGHT, THAT'S ANOTHER STORY. So what do you want? Just weld over it or fix it right? Your choice, c'mon I aint got all day.
Reply:Well here is our finish up the job pics..The weld that I had to get rid of was easy enough until I got down to the plate with the holes in it.Then this happened along with a handfull of broken carbide bits..This is the backside of a couple of weld pieces..OK all cleaned up and ready for it to get done RIGHT!!First pass..Second pass..Next Post.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I'm thinking an adjustable height stool would be a good investment of time/materials for you.Watch out for sunburn on the insides of those elbows!  You can wear long sleeves and cook from the heat or wear short sleeves and cook from the arc.  Heat doesn't cause skin cancer.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE

Reply:Way to go, Zap.  Lookin' awesome, as usual.  That peeled, unpenetrated previous weld material is unreal.I see the 330A/BP in the background.  And the 330A/BP pedal.  Looks right at home in that shop. How much current would you say you'd need to use to TIG metal this thick?  300 amps or so?Does the end of your shielding cup get "glowing red hot" or anything?

Reply:Question:- Why isn't the 'right' way to fix this to fix the sealing faces?  O-rings or the fit is off, whatever.  - The weld must have had some penetration because it looks like one piece when you got done cleaning it up in the lathe, right?  Shouldn't I be seeing a line seperating the inside bolted piece from the bore of the cylinder?I'm having a hard time understanding what's going on.  I pictured a cap with a shaft end that bolted into the cylinder, but now I'm not so sure I get it.Thanks,
