I am thinking of making my own Tubular steel ornate fencing panels. They will be around 5' tall x 8' long panels in light tubulars galvanised steel.Normally these fences come from the suppliers in a powder coated form, but the distance to where I live is too far to economically get it done, so I thought I would spray paint it myself.Has anyone done this and what prep paint did you use and what sort of finish coat paint ?Did it apply easy and is it tough as powder coating ?
Reply:I see your down in Oz.I might treat it like painting a car. If DuPont sezs you can do it, should work. They have a special primer designed for it. I searched for the latest buzz. Been around in some form for years.http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/eqsc/Qualit...DuPont2910.pdfThen followed up by the auto paint they recommend. Might check in with the local auto body repair paint supplier who does DuPont after some basic research. Be knowledgeable in any cleaning requirements, special whatever.I always knew it could be done, have zero experience with it. There is one latex consumer product that claims to be able to do it. Again zero experience along that line. Would not trust it I think. In the USA some ACE hardwares carry it.See what others might say but it is a tad difficult if you use the wrong stuff.
Reply:just use a cotton glove and dip your hand into the paint. The glove will allow you to get coverage on the entire tube. We've used this method for years and it is by far the best way to paint pipe/tube fence in the field.K.I.S.S evading the minds of engineers since the beginning of time.Lincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln IdealArc 250Lincoln Ranger 305GLincoln SP 185 |
